Yaya

By RajaTheResidentAlien on February 13, 2022 7:37 am

YoYo! I made this chill-house song, 'Yaya' mostly in Renoise... decided to try some basics i'd never tried before... Apple makes a janky basic plugin called 'MIDISynth'... i think it just plays sine-tones... i dunno, but it sounded great when pumped through a little bit of Renoise distortion and then into both FabFilter and ValhallaSupermassive reverbs(that's the main pad that starts the song). In addition, i used Aalto and Kaivo plugins for the other synths, and I played guitar, bass, and sang(also took my voice into Logic real quick to use 'vocal transformer' for the formant-shift, then back into Renoise for the cutups).

A friend of mine offered me a commission to make him some chill-house music to help him focus at work(but i don't see myself as an artist who'd enjoy making a whole set of songs that help people stay in their comfort zone... i think we got a problem these days with people just wanting to create playlists for specific purposes(aerobics workouts, driving, meditating, making love, etc.), never branching out into the unfamiliar(who says you can't make love to Iannis Xenakis?? eh??? but if you make a love-making playlist, i bet Xenakis won't be on it cuz people prefer music to conform to their idea of love-making before its even begun, probably out of fear of how their love-making might conform to their idea of music if they don't control the music before doing anything yikes)... so i turned the commission down, but told him i'd try to make a few house tracks every now and then for him, anyways, because i don't usually make house, so at least for me personally, this IS braving something outside my comfort zone, hehe big_smile) <-look at that lengthy explanation go full circle, hahahaha... ok then, hope you enjoy the track smile

and here's a vid for it, too, made quickly in Jitter using footage from my car driving on Highway 128 towards the coast(hint: there are less asshole-Mendocino-cops on Highway 128 than on Highway 101 and 1 wink)

im gonna try making love to this

There's no way I could focus at work w/ this, the level-of-detail here is (with those vocals!) is too much for me not to listen intently. I love this, one of the absolute top-tier highlights of this week: one-foot-in-the-familiar, the other's in another dimension. Can't get over how badass those vocals are.

sine wave synth sounds so lush... amazing groove and track

VERY cool video!  I just got Zwobot which I think uses Jitter.

I like the bass in the song.

Yeah, I also don't like the "algorithmification" of music.  "Music To Be A 18-24 Year Old Living Within 25-100 Miles Of A Metropolitan Area Who May Not Have A Reoccurring Skin Condition With Either Liberal Or Conservative Or Both Beliefs To"

PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN

bomba!

Intricate and confusing in a very good way.

Oh wow what a trip, especially with the video. Alien music! This beat is sick, and the bass line that accompanies has this weird alien groove to it. Very nice music that cannot be classified. The vocals sound reverted? Or something like that? Or not. I'm confused. I love that.

ha, yes, good idea really.

This is a tasty smooth trip. Goes perfectly with the driving footage and trippy colors. Dig the vocals a LOT, and that bassline, nice.

haha, YES! and while you're at it, put this dancefloor banger by Xenakis in the same playlist:

Thank you so much! I'll have to make more of these house-stylez, thank you again for the encouragement!

ThankYouThankYouThankYou! I've not used Zwobot, but it looks like it does use Jitter. You're gonna have so much fun! I still love the live-action of your videos, tho... if you get a projector/monitor, maybe you can combine the two... or green-screen to zwobot... ha, i have no doubt you're going to come up with some serious awesomeness big_smile

Haha, ya, I sang normally, but didn't like the way it sounded, so first i formant-shifted the vox in Logic, then all types of cutup(including some reversal) in Renoise. So glad to hear you vibed with it heart
