merry-go-round

By Q-Rosh on June 25, 2022 12:28 pm

For this track I powered on the 4-track Tascam taperecorder. I used one of the tapes I could recue, that someone  thrown in the garbage container and had strange music onto. My song starts with the ending, because I reversed the tape and had a little piece of the former music on my tracks. For those who don`t understand what I try to explain, it is a typical problem, using a prerecorded tape and a 4-track taperecorder. Nevermind.
Because I could not decide which direction was better, I mixed both versions together in the computer. I did another trick while recording, which was to let the looper run on reverse too , to see what happens if I let the tape runs backwards later. This song became more or less experimental with a little carousel feeling.

so lovely in its dreamy color

Old tape is precious sounding, a dream someone had before we had a chance to come along. This is fantastic (really partial to the sparser section around 4:26-ish).

Sounds really warm in the way that I feel only tape can provide.  Feels like a cozy blanket wrapped around my ears.

Far out!

Ooof!  Love the warmth that immediately pours out from this track.  I thought for a second Boards of Canada had popped back on in my music player!  Your guitar with the background has a very comforting sound.  Always look forward to your tracks each week because they inspire and provide much needed therapeutic relief.  Also I like your attempt at describing the track smile  a lovely sound throughout.

This was great riding the togethers and the inbetweens.

Listening to the ipaghost prior to this track may have primed me, but it sounded like a river of honey slowly going through the landscape. It felt like a sonic brain massage - thank you very much for this!

Beautiful tape mixing!

Wow, this immediately draws you in, mesmerizing sounds from those tapes and the manipulation of the recordings, this is so hypnotic on headphones, real pleasure to listen to, thank you

a week for reversing indeed heart

this piece is just stunning - how does all the reversing sound so beautiful forward? = magic

this is my merry go round this week:

What a crazy ride.

Absolutely beautiful. So warm and flowing as if transporting into someone else's memory for a brief moment. Love it, thanks for sharing

Very cool tape experimentation.  Love the back story and the fact that you are using old analog tape.  I remember those days very well.  Everything blends together seamlessly.  All of it has this beautiful warm warble sound that is vintage, dreamy, and other-worldly. Did you also manipulate the speed?  Some of the backwards sounding parts seem slowed down.

I love when old recordings become part of a new creation.  I've only done one or 2 tracks on reel to reel and I kept the old part.
The reverse keeps things swirling nicely and I liked that bit of distortion break up that came in brielfy too.  I'd like to do more tape but you need to put time aside for the process.

Very inspiring tape experiments, love the reversed remainder at the start. Such beautiful sonic qualities to the medium, and the content you've filled it with is super complementary. Love the melodic territory around 3 minutes-ish. I like it.
