maniac repetition

By Q-Rosh on April 17, 2022 12:39 pm

Finally I have a couple of days off duty and can spend time with my family and my gear in the basement or listen to music. Fortunately the new RHCP unlimited love record reached my stereo and I am happyly surprised how good the record came out. I hear mainly bad reviews, but for me the music works well, the more I listen to it the better it gets. This is 100% the orginal magic pepperssound, I love and I recognize surprisingly things, that were not there the last time I heared the same song. I thought it would become more experimental, as John did more extreme stuff in the past. Influenced by this I did a jam over 45 minutes with one guitarloop and my pedals. I could not upload the whole jam, so I folded it the 2 times and had 4 pieces with a length of 10 minutes. I made them run in a synced mode and just had to make a little dynamic mix, et voila, the endless repetition worked even better as a 4 track.
Sorry if I might steel your valuable time, but I could not shorten the song more without loosing its hypnoptic effect. If you might listen regardless this warning, I thank you.

Sometimes you've just gotta stretch out and do a long jam.  Awesome textures and I'm digging the way it gets pretty intense at certain points.

A great idea to play longsongs during long Easter time. I have always liked longsongs, this one I like very much. Weiter so:-)

I really like how the track starts rather in a dry funky way and then it feels like we are slowly going under water through 0:15 onwards, or at least crossing past the water like membrane of the mirror into this mellow universe of 70s music meets the RHCP, everything through a liquid filter. Some parts of this track are really insane, like the 2:45 section. If someone put a gun to my head and told me "you need to create the same track exactly", I would not even have the beginning of the idea on how to start with it. This is inverted escher-like gemoetry version of music. Faved this one.

“Valuable time” isn’t stolen when you’re listening to music in my opinion. Keep up the creativity!

Entrancing. I should listen to their latest album right after I'm done listening to WB this week.

Man, this is cool as hell.  So many great sounds in here.  The distant drums are awesome and I'm really digging all of the digitized sounds.

Great way to start my day with some beautiful textures!

I felt a groove in here right away, started bobbing my head a little, kinda funky. Super cool sounds and layers to dig into and swim around in, it tis hypnotic. I dig your jams.  I always listen to WB stuff at work, and your long ones give me nice long segment to work to. New RHCP, didn't know! I'm a fan, checking it out tonight then. Thanks for that reminder!

Yeah I agree with you about the reviews for RHCP.  The reviews I saw were kind of harsh.  I enjoyed the album on the first listen.  I can def hear the influence in the guitar sound alone.  The glitchy textures mixed with the guitar has a super hypnotic effect.   Totally chilled out atmosphere that I zoned out to.

I'm not a huge RHCP fan, but I've been talking to a few fans about the new album and taking in some reviews, and what I've heard is that it's sincere and genuine and they're doing exactly what they want. That's exactly the spirit I hear in your music overall, and this is a great example. I'm enjoying this, and once again I'm grateful to be sharing this slice of musical history with you. Dreamlike, smooth transitions as I'm being transported between interesting spaces. There's a lot of controlled emotion but also a lot of delicate texture.

your website is so cool - really enjoyed reading about your recording process & how it keeps evolving
yay for experimentation & figuring out ways to do things!  hope more space opens up for you do this - yay for a few days off!  this jam feels like the unfolding of too many things for a human to hold & the underlying calm that keeps you floating through....

I don’t usually listen to 10 minute tracks, but this one immediately grabbed my attention so I was stuck. Well done!

Thank you very much. I always strech out in my jams to find the right wave to ride on.

Vielen Dank. Auch wenn in der Kürze die Würze steckt.

So nice to have your comments here. I am just improvising and experimentating. I would not be able to repeat a track once again myself, I think.

Take your time, the record will last fresh for the next 40 years.

Thank you for listening so deep into the song, that you found the drums.

What are you working? Maybe your are a neurosurgeon? Nevermind, have fun with the RHCP, too.

Thank you emily for that gif, it looks a lot like the photos I made of my psychedelic lamplight, that I manipulated in photoshop and other apps for my webpage. You can see the real light turning in the background in the short film of the record lathe beeing played on my recordplayer. the gif is really cool and thanks for the kind words.

I know what you mean, but sometimes a long song is good for a special adventure.

Doing a 10-minute track without coming across as self-indulgent is hard and this delivers a very non-self-indulgent adventure in spades. (Reminds me of the best moments of Amo Bishop Roden by Boards of Canada).

Cool to read about your process. There is something very special about that guitar loop you’ve got underpinning the whole thing.

I really like the way it breaks up rhythmically midway through.

The watery, syrupy granular-ish sounds in the last third are beautiful too.
