jazzy expedition

By Q-Rosh on July 9, 2022 5:43 pm

This is 100% analog. There is Günther on the Rhodes piano and me on guitar and a Thorens TD125 MKII turntable, which allows me to play records extraslow and manipulate the speed. I was exploring new sounds with some of my Jazz records and made some cool discoverys. Now, as I am having a fever and the virus since yesterday, I do not have the right ears anymore, to make any decisions about the mix. Have fun anyhow.

Nice!

A nice change of direction, which still somehow fits with your sound.  The jazzy elements work really well.  It really sets a nice kind of mellow and downbeat mood.

This is a very beautiful track, where the keyword really is subtlety. It uses space, in time between the notes and also within the mix, and it always feels very delicate and finely woven. As we listen, we try not to breathe too hard, lest it disturbs the gentle equilibrium of the track. Like fine water drops on a spider web in the early morning, glistening in the morning sun. Very tasteful.

hope you get well soon.  sending a sonic prayer your way.

this sounds like fever disorientation.

So great!!! Awesome use of samples from the vinyl, the sax sounds delicious! Amazing piano playing and tone, kudos to Günther! For me the track speaks an extra message as today the jazz festival in Copenhagen just finished and it was an amazing experience, and somehow this track captures a melancholy that I totally can apply to what I feel right now big_smile
Love the singing bowls/bells/cymbals and manipulations too. Sounds like there’s some tasty saturation too, did you apply extra processing at the end or is that a result of it being from vinyl?

Gute Besserung, nicht musikalisch betrachtet, versteht sich, denn das ist schon sehr reizvoll, was wir da zu hören bekommen, sondern gesundheitlich, damit nächste Woche vielleicht noch was wunderbar Jazziges rüberkommt ...

this is so soothing and beautiful, and it feels human, non mechanical, hope you get well soon. Really lovely work.

i hope you 100% recover soon!

the mix sounds beautiful

I love all the percussive glimmers and pitch warbles throughout. Spacious and flowing. I'm watching a sci-fi noir film unfold in my mind's eye. Hope you feel better soon!

that the rhodes entrance at :30 just draws you in, loved the keys. Get well, stay well.

I love rhodes. The mix sounds full to me. Lots of details here and there. Thanks for the track and get well!

Sorry to hear about the virus, hope you have a quick recovery.  This is a brilliant piece of music, Rhodes sounds like pure pleasure for the ears,  fantastic use of the turntable to manipulate the records, so many sounds to dissect on this one, reminds me of that Andrew Pekler record on ~scape, now I need to go find that record.

This is amazing. The textures and overall vibe are so addictive. Love it.

we are forming a cohesive group of unknown individuals
tenuously grouped by recorded wave forms
we compare our expression with compassion and hope
that a community becomes tangible connected through empathetic volunteers

I like this a lot, particularly when the notes hover in a wind chime like pattern (end of 2nd minute), suspended, but moving. (And, of course, the actual chimes!)

Great track!  The Rhoads ties the vinyl experimentation together in such a lovely way and I really dig those vinyl sounds in there too.  It's like a faster version of Bohren and de Club of Gore.  Check them out if you haven't.  Doom jazz!  big_smile

Gotta love that Rhodes sound and how it gets ya right in the feels.  The vinyl textures give it a rainy night feeling too.  I enjoyed this expedition very much.  I hope you feel better very soon!!

I am thankful to be able to make music with such a professional and well-versed Jazzmusician. My job was to bring something experimental material into the track.

I send your regards to Günther. thanks. No extra processing on the vinyl was done. playing the record at 16, makes everything sound much fatter.

thank you. the track was played with a friend, who has a lot of experience. his hands are more than 160 years old together, but work very fluid and lively.

I used to play in the band Bergheim34 together with Andrew Pekler. He is a great musician with an excellent taste for rare records and sounds.

It seems, I had good luck with this song. It was a try and error with the samples.

Yes, I know the Club of Gore. I also like the Harold Budd/Brian Eno stuff, too.

Thank you for listening. I hope I feel better soon, too.

Wow that is incredible, it really is a small world, when I heard your track this week "Nocturnes, False Dawns & Breakdown" is what came to my mind, I haven't listened to that album in many years.  What a surprise that you not only know Andrew Pekler but were in a band together, I actually have some of your Bergheim 34 releases on some compilation CD's.

The Bergheim34 US tour 1999 was the coolest thing ever, until now. We were listening to our songs in the radio, while driving through New York on our way to the gig in the Cooler Club. but it is more than 20 years ago....

Great idea with record, it came out awesome, I like ... sounds like jazz through a fever haze ... or jazz at dawn, sparkle magic. Feel better!

wow, this is going all kindsa places

Gorgeous heart

Really enjoyed this. I have had a heck of a week (again), and this just kind of helped me get away from it all for a little under seven minutes. smile
