heavy mandel

On my mission this week, to listen to hundrets of old cassette-recordings I did in the last 40 years, I stumbled over many forgotten songs, that I started now to digitalize, before the lifetime of the tapes is completely over. Here is a short mastertrack I did onto a lovely bassline sample. I did not listen to this, about 15-20 years. I remember, the rain was recorded the day my son was born. Heavy drops and a thunder followed by singing birds. We lived under the roof, I was alone at home, because my wife was in the clinic. About 4 years later I bought a children-drumset (for my son) and started to learn a little bit drums for myself. I had a blue imac those days, with logic 4 or 5, something I can`t use anymore. I was cutting the beat manuelly and could not use any effects, because the CPU was so bad. This was the time, I finally finished the track and did a mastertrack on a casstte tape. It is a document and a nice memory, so I did a little EQing and compressing now for WB. No need to add lofi, there is plenty already in here. Don`t blame me not to create something new this week, I was busy at work and travelling into my past. AND in case, I have a get out of prison free card.

Oh wow that bass line is really awesome! With the sound of rain, I was taken to Riders on the Storm kind of vibe, though this track is of course not that dark. This is really a nice track. The Rhodes like keys are very nice. The solo mid track is really nice, again with a vibe similar to The Doors.

Really a lot of things happening in this track, it is a delight. Thank you for sharing this one!

Really have to second Kedbreak in the appreciation of the bass line. I especially like the sounds that come in around the last third of the track that sound like they're reversed.

Yeah the bass line is fantastic.  Love hearing about all the memories this stirred up for you.  I started recording on cassettes, too, although mine only go back about 25 years or so.  It's a good idea to digitize them while you still can.  I digitized some of mine around 2004, but then I got lazy and stopped.  In the meantime I no longer own a cassette player and some of the tapes have gotten lost or damaged so I'm kind of kicking myself for not digitizing all of them back then.  I actually need to get ahold of a cassette player so I can digitize some of the ones I still have before they get lost forever.

Great vibes all round on this one.  A real early 70s feel here.  Very cool

Yeah nah you get a solid pass from me at least. It's not every day I get something this cool sprung on me. I want to hear more of these tapes, tbh. This one is a very smooth and relaxing jam, props to both 1970s you and current you, you're a great team.

That bass line is so sweet, love the sound of the rain in the intro, drums have a nice groove with the shaker, this just keeps getting better with the birds coming in the mix, definitely don’t want to lose these memories, good thing you are digitizing them.

sick bass line. i really dig this.

This is great, and the story behind the track is very interesting too. Great bass tone (and playing).

Yes you do have that "get out of prison" card from last week, lol.
Such an awesome psychedelic journey into the past. What a story! Rain the day your song was born, WOW!
This sounds awesome. Makes me want to go make sounds and experiment, which is great feeling
Some people say only live in the present, but I think trips to the past can be pretty great sometimes.

It sounds like you had a nice trip down memory lane. It's probably one of the better places to be in these times, since the present is horrible and the future is scary.

Def feeling those 70s vibes with the excellent bassline and the epiano. The drums and percussion are a nice counter to the slick bass.

Very poetic description.  Love the image of the rain falling heavily on the day your son was born and having a document on tape.  It's like a time machine or study on random memory.  Sounds like the tape is lending a very soft blanket of distortion that makes the track very cozy.  Killer bass tone and piano combo.  Love that whacked out scratchy lead line in the middle.  What is that?? Sounds very vintage electronic.  Beautiful sounds and memories!

Wow this is such a beautiful recording, and such tasty groove. So nice to read its origin story too. Never expected to come across a track with such history on here, definitely no complaints from me!
