easy peasy

In this week I used the most easiest set up, that I could use for a quick jam. The recording was done on a TASCAM 234 4-track taperecorder( on a very very old used Maxell Cassette). The OP-1 needed a stereotrack, so there was only one track left for my Hohner Pianet M and one for the Jazzmaster guitar. I did this in one take and just had to do some EQ and a little reverse here and there and the thing was finished. Less effects as usual were used, what I think is OK this time.
Of course the track misses the high quality of a digital equipment, has a lack of virtuosity but has exact the level of DIY homerecording I feel good about. Have a nice week.

There is life, warmth and a cool groove to this track. I especially like the lower end texture, with its very very warm and smooth sound. I enjoyed the organic sound of this one.

Beautiful. The song maybe would not work with high quality equipment and virtuosity. Tascam rules!

I love the way this song feels like it's in no hurry. Just unfolds at its own pace with that constant groove. Real nice.

Super cool, and the noises within recording adds some life to the track. Simple tools can help with workflows. Good stuff.

I spent the first ten years or so of my recording career using a 4-track and I even remember using Maxell cassettes.  Sometimes I miss the simplicity and lo-fi sound of those days.  It seems like you found a really nice groove with this one and I think maybe the Tascam was the right tool to bring it to life.

love the tremolo

UGH i need to fix my four track.  i think a flywheel (rubber) band got hot and burst!

Suuuper lovely groove, and track. The restraint on that guitar is so satisfying. The 4 track and single take limitations definitely bring some magic to the feel of it too!

That jazzmaster sounds awesome on tape like that. This is super chill, I love that stuff at 2:11. Nice work!

First thing that came to mind is “to rococo rot”, something about the minimal beat with the subdued guitar, very enjoyable

Love the feel of this groove between the keys, drum and guitar. Is the percussion from the Hohner?  I looked that up real quick, it looks like a pretty sweet vintage keyboard.  Nice work!

AGree with the above comments ... Great sound quality from the 4 track. I grew up in the era of 4 track cassettes, but never did own one, nice to hear you using one to get this sound. Everything fits so well here, enjoyed hearing the free flowing nature of this, good groove and sounds!

So nice, hypnotic rhythm track and moody tremolo. Super tight aesthetic.

Very cool groove/vibe to this one. Kind of like a grungy funk track.

This is really chill. I enjoyed the jam-style where the pulse keeps going and you are grooving on top. I actually liked the weird insect-like hihat pulse a lot big_smile it reminded me of my old highschool jamming times with some buddies in the recording studio. inspiring track!

After listening I read about the tape machine you used and the process and I have to say BRAVO it's amazing and I wanna do the same sometime! I actually might have the chance cause my friend showed me his tascam 4 track machine last week and I was like "idk what to do with this but it's cool". maybe I'll try next time!

So how do you do it? do you record one layer after the other until you have the final track? Do you ever go back and forth between instruments, does the workflow afford that? This time seems like one take was all it takes, sounds great!

Really nice mix of clean and grungy textures. Gotta love the charm of analog equipment

Crazy good chill track. Old school 4 track tape sounds great. I like the stereo field on the drums. Overall, very warm and fuzzy sound.

I really dig the lofi sound. The analog pieces melt together so calmly and patiently.

I really like the sound of this recording!  There's definitely some magic when recording to tape. The stereo separation works well too.

that organ is nasty in the most delicious way.

This track is crunchy in the best way possible. Diggin' it!

This is a very cool piece of instrumental electronic blues, without using the typicals chord variations. Great work.

Really sweet track! I like the simplicity here.

The pianet M is very sweet, indeed. It has 2 speakers and a chorus and a tremolo effect. no rhythmachine on board. Such an analog epiano would inspire you for sure, too. The beat comes from the OP1.

Feels very Lynchian. Love it.

I would hate to come across as arguing but nothing about this is "lo-fi" to me: it's exactly the "fi" that the music made necessitates. Sounds like it couldn't have happened any other way. Ending chords moments are unbelievable.
