casio VL-1

By Q-Rosh on December 6, 2020 5:06 pm

This track was done during the week before the historical weekend, 29/30 August 2020. It was one of the first song I did with my new OP-1. BUT: what you can hear is not one single internal sound of the OP-1!! I dedicated this project to the OP-1 ancestor Casio VL-1, which I own since 1980!!!!! I did my first multirackrecordings with this beatmachine as a kid. I honest kept the mastercassette with the my early early recordings. If you are curious, I can load them up here, on weeklybeats 2022. Why not? So, what you can listen to, are short 4-track loops of the casio, recorded on my OP. I mean, they get one`s wires crossed, but in fact, there is a gigantic development of their musical options( from nearly nothing to almost everything! ) What I did, was to use ONLY the effectsection of the OP and still have the casio feeling in my mind. new retro...somehow..or retro news.
The week 35 wasn`t the right moment for me to come out with this, I preferred to play sitar and let some time passing by. This week was too much work, no time for brand new stuff and listening to your sweet music. But I will come back, don`t question it.

That's actually cool just to use the OP-1 as a 4 track.  This might be illegal for you to submit something previously recorded, but I'll bail you out of jail with my WB-Bucks.  Save this for later:

That big break at 4:20 is really great and ominous.  Excellent drama.

The plik plok sounds take me back to space invader.

I like the cool effect you apply to the main line and the pads. What a cool track!

Ein Muntermacher und very inspiring

Cool to hear the story behind this one and it does create a fantastic retro vibe.  This goes in some really interesting different directions over the course of its runtime.  I would definitely be interested in hearing some of those early recordings.

Very cool. Many nice sounds that brings to me some nostalgia.

Thank you all for the feedback.
This is the holy grail:

Damn I really want an OP-1 now

That tape stop effect at 0:50 sounds great and the change up in sounds going forward, really enjoy all you have squeezed out of the op-1 these past few months, so much diversity.

What a great series of iterations. That bass has the good feels to it for me.

I love the transition around 1:20, where the plink plonks drop out. Wow yeah this really goes on a fun journey. The plink plonks evolve into think thonks! Great work!

Your OP1 stuff is so great. I always come away feeling inspired.

I had instant flashbacks as the VL-1 was my first synth when I was just a kid and I still have it!  Should dig it up for a play.  From memory there's a couple of sticky keys from spilling softdrink or something as a kid.  Hehe.

Really cool idea to marriage the two together.  The OP-1 is such a cool little synth and some great stuff happening in this track with the OP-1 tricks.  Nice one!

Loving the OP-1 but not OP-1. Nice work!

The intro bleeps reminded me of Trio's "da da da" at first smile  But you def took this into new territory with those lovely synth lines.  Really enjoyed those deep bassy tones that cut thru the mix.  Super cool track.
