nowhere, next

Submitted in probably the last 10s lol literally wrote and tracked all the vox in 30m but spent a good bit of time on the instrumental and chords. Accidentally left the track where I was playing out the vocal melody on the keys unmuted. I also spent a lot of time making this nifty chord progression tool that helped me cook some interesting chords.
This weeks idea was to make a pop song like the koreans do. I failed, it sounds like my usual style but I like many parts of it.

Verse
They say the key is following your passion
But I'm wondering if I'll ever see some traction
Its a blur, so I yearn
Wonder if I ever wont be amateur
So I'll work
'Til I reach the end of end of end of earth
Pre-Chorus
I can hear the voices talking in my head
Good think I don't listen to the stupid things they said
Chorus
You called it nowhere
You called it fantasy
Live in a dream world
No need for your apathy

It’s easier to hate and detract than to see a vision for the future and create something new.
Verse has a minor vibe, prechorus facilitates a transition to parallel major so this represents something of a transition to triumph over the haters.
It’s ok for the lyrics to be poppy and a little cliche on this one, I am taking inspiration from mainstream pop and k-pop but the instrumental ended up more in my usual gorillaz territory. The verse instrumental is dark and epic and the chorus is kinda watery/drippy happy like Lucy in the sky with diamonds. The prechorus has like a theatrical tip toe suspense that bridges the two.
hate and detract:
- naysay
- laugh or pity lack of initial traction + don’t offer support
- feedback never constructive. Always “this wont work”, “this is bad” etc
- desire to look cool. New isn’t cool when it has no traction at all.
- moving the goalposts
- zero sum thinking
- appeal to tradition or authority
- don’t be: “naive, impractical” be realistic
“This wont work” “Nobody wants this” “Why even try”
create something new:
- take a risk on something uncertain
- tolerate embarassment during periods without initial success
- have faith in a vision without evidence
- fueled by passion
- exponential vs linear thinking
saw the whole sky in a drop of light
I made a new world out of your no
You said dream like it was a weakness
You called it a fantasy, now we live inside
“You called it nowhere, I called it next”
“You doubted, I did it”
Dream as embarrassing because it exposes desire
Dream as architecture
Fantasy as color
