Family Meeting - A TR-606 Workout

By Princent Vice on June 9, 2024 1:50 pm

My tr-606 is the machine that started my acid obsession but has lain dormant for a few years due to DINsync challenges. As I have an Avalon on order I figured it’s time to dust of the silver box and get to work. Luckily the x0xb0xes have DINsync.

I own 2x x0xb0x tr-303 clones and one of them hasn’t worked for a couple years. Last night it sprang to life, so i tried to get it updated, which took hours and inevitably failed. Since i couldn’t update it i had timing issues. once i switched to the known working x0xb0x everything was nice and tight, but by then it was 2am. Woke up this morning, synced everything up, and played it all live. The bass is the x0xb0x, the lead is the TT-303, the drums are mostly TR-606 which I’m live playing into, with CR-78 sound, auxillary drums, and clock coming from the OP-Z. Everything recorded using AUM (to avoid fighting with Logic), then given a quick and dirty master in Logic.

This style of semi-improv is what i hope to create a live show out of and is the end goal of this entire year of WB. This one was abbreviated due to time constraints in life, but I’m hoping to have more of the expanded setup as we move into the second half of the year.

Inspiring track. Love the drive of this, and it always amazes me how much energy a track can get from a slow filter sweep. Love it.

Inspiring because one of my goals is to break away from always being DAW-based and experiment with hardware-based electronic music. I’m slowly building up the collection to do it, hopefully gonna get there soon.
