I really liked the original mix so I wanted to preserve its essence and mood as much as possible while adding some twists and placing the elements in a new context. I switched out the ethnic percussion in the intro for an amen break to give it a more drum and bass feel. I extended the impact of the melodic elements in the chorus sections and this experimentation led me to settle on a cinematic twanged string sound sound supported by synth brass sections. I’m glad to have invested the time exploring on this project as I have learned some valuable lessons about creating space; mixing and composition. Mostly - what I learned on this project is: less is more. I spent a lot of time subtracting elements and attempting to simplify the journey through the composition.
