The Lichen Grows

By Phil Harmonic on November 20, 2012 12:00 am

A quick throw together track featuring two 3xOsc synths, a distorted bass pluck (in the background) and some drums.. the bass is the same synth split into 3 bands and each manipulated.. the other synth is the bell like thing.. enjoy

The bass... love it!  Cool sound. like that fat bendy modulation embellishment to the playing.

crazy but coherent at the same time, cool stuff

YYeeeee.  I dig the 3xOsc.  It seems to produce pretty chunky sounds.

on its own its almost identical to the synth that i made.. its a 3 oscillator synth.. to produce the original tone that i then break into 3 bands i used one square wave.. and two detuned saws.. and then I degraded it down to 8bit to give it an initial chunkiness..  to break it into bands i routed it to 3 discrete channels and applied steep paramentric filters to isolate the bands at 90hz and at 3khz.. those three channels were then routed back into one to get the full sound again.. this is a trick i learned long ago when trying to figure out how to make those thick reeses that they have in darkstep/techstep. once its split into multiple bands. the possibilites are endless.. the  subbass band usually only gets some tiny distortion and a compressor.. the two higher bands get filters and delay effects and distortions and all kinds of wonderful shit. even varying their volume alone is rad.. cause its like a really wide bandstop.

Such an amazing tune!
