STALAGMITE

I did some more sampling from the Hydrasynth this week. Most of the main synth parts are from that. The rest is M8 stuff.

I just kind of noodled this one together. I started with the bass sequence. I made two sections: the first with just a single chord and a turn, and the second with a full 4 bar progression with the same turn. Then I just put that on repeat and tried to find some lines to fit with it. Got a bunch of these recorded into the M8 and then spend a bunch of time arranging and working on gluing it all together.

Fairly pleased with this one overall though. I'm not sick of listening to it after working on it, so I know I like it!

Oh sampling the Hydrasynth what a great idea! The bass sounds fantastic and I love the stereo-panned percussion, it's subtle but creates a lot of space. The layers that emerge as the song progresses work really well too.

Did you sample single notes or sequences from the hydra?

Thank you! For the sampling, in this one, I sampled 32 or 64 phrases into the M8 rather than just single notes. Then I can chop them into 2 or 4 phrase slices or just let the whole thing play through. I'm still refining the workflow, but it seems to be going well so far.

Oh snap, this is such a lovely slow burn!!! Fantastic work!!!! I'm really impressed with how you built your progression here. I often find it difficult to make longer tunes like this, but you make it sound effortless, this is AWESOME!!! Loving the synth that plays a high pitched melody at around 3:00.
Great work overall, congrats!!!

Hey! Thanks so much for this. I never know if the long tracks are too repetitive or not, especially while I'm working on them, listening to it a million times, etc. So thanks for the confidence boost! 😉
