RAT TRAP

In this week's song I wanted to try two ideas: A crash on beat one with a clap lead-in, and a gated synth sound. They were both on my list of things to try that I jotted down at some point over the last few weeks, so I decided to scratch them off the list, and this is what emerged.

I haven't really tried to make a techno track before but it kinda just happened once I had the percussion down. Then the rest just followed. The gated effect is neat on the synth. I want to try to vary the rhythm of the gate somehow, but I didn't have time to figure that out on the M8, so you're stuck with just a square LFO on volume synced with a table envelope trigger in this one. I don't have a lot of techno listening experience so I don't have a good intuition for the genre. So it feels a little repetitive to me. And I think I did a better job on the EQ this time, but still a lot to learn.

But another week bites the dust ...

I'm not a techno expert by any means, but this sounds good to me and I could definitely imagine getting out on a dance floor to it.

The crash and the clap is what immediately got my attention on this one, I love this style of stripped back techno, I would say this is a huge success.  The gated synth works really well, I did not find this repetitive, just smooth.

Thanks you! That's a great compliment.

Thanks so much! I don't remember where I heard that clap-crash, but it grabbed my attention too when I heard it. Maybe I'll try some more techno it the future. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the style so much.
