PURSUIT

I was going for a more ominous feel this week. I'm imagining a dark forest with something approaching from a vast distance, but with great speed and eventually cresting the horizon and arriving.

I ended up spending a lot of time exploring various sounds and then not ending up using them. I find the sound design aspect of electronic music to be very challenging from a time management perspective! Mostly because I don't have a clear goal in mind ... or if I do have a goal, I often get led astray by interesting accidents, etc, or I'm not able to make the sound I'm going for because of my inexperience.

Anyway, I would have liked a more involved or longer song this week, but it just wasn't in the cards this time.

Only one sample used this week ... the crackling fire, which I recorded a few weeks ago on my phone, then sampled directly into the M8. All other sounds are internal M8 synths. The fog horn at the end is me getting lost in hypersynth land after reading the M8 discord. Direct render from M8.

Thanks for listening!

Whooooah, this is super duper eerie!!! I love the fireplace crackling throughout!!! Is it just one long sample or did you do some magic to get it looping just right?
And I totally hear you l: I also often have a hard time with sound design because I rarely have a good idea in my head of a sound I want to make. And when I do, I rarely know how to achieve it.
Anyways, the super intense and ominous vibes here are great, awesome work!

Thanks so much! For the fire crackling, I think I recorded enough to just play the long sample, but it does loop here. It was pretty straightforward though since there is lots of silence in there between the crackles for making a loop point.

tasteful sound-design, and i love how the momentum and energy surges right before the beat, killer vibe! mad heart

Thanks! I spent a while working on that part, so it's great that you enjoyed it! smile
