COLD START

By PeterM on February 18, 2024 3:04 am

For this week's song I started with a recording of me cold starting my 1986 Case IH 485 tractor. She doesn't like to go when she's cold! Some days it can take 30s to a minute to get her to catch. Sometimes I do a little beat box along with the cranking sound to pass the time wink ! Which got me thinking I should try to make a track around that sound.

Anyway, I tried chopping that sample into a beat of some sort and then just tried to fill out the song from there. I added some Speak and Spell vocals to add some humour to the mix. So I was having fun making this one!

Light on melodic stuff and lots of rhythmic elements.

Samples this week are the tractor starting and also I recorded some chains clinking to add a bit of interest. Everything else, including the kick and snare, is M8 synths. Direct render from M8 as usual.

Nice use of the daily life cool idea and use of the sounds!

I wouldn't have thought to do this but it needed to be done! Slow cold motor starts are excellent source material smile

Funny AND disturbing with great sounds. Love it!

Yeah, it was only a matter of time before I tried this ... especially with these weekly deadlines. Thanks for listening!

So glad you enjoyed it. I was just cycling though the available speak 'n spell words and seeing what I could pair with machine ... and I just kinda went with pleasure. I was going for humor, but I can see the disturbing pov now that I listen to it again. Thanks for listening and dropping a comment!

nice track-tor
