I'm Runnin'

By Paisleyfrog on June 16, 2024 1:48 am

Keeping with the blues feel for another week. This one came from an unexpected place... My friends frequently get together and just do crafting. I wasn't working on a project, so I grabbed a guitar and just did some quiet unplugged riffing while my wife and friends like, crocheted and stuff. (Also, GarageBand can provide a good backing track to an earbud.)

The main feel is a minor blues bounce…like I was thinking last week, but faster than I was originally planning. Lyrics came about in my normal way...sorted of hummed and sang along with the melody until a phrase came about (I'm runnin'!). The lyrics built around that phrase.

Some Texas blues here, but there’s also a southern rock feel due to the organ - I’ve spent a lot of time listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd smile Harmonica also makes a return. The riff between the verse and chorus is pretty similar, it’s mainly the soft/loud dynamic that drives the song. That and all the chaotic soloing.

I don't know where I'm going
Don't know where I've been
Just gotta keep moving
My shoes are wearing thin

And I'm running
I'm running
Yeah I'm running
I'm running, I'm running away

Left without warning
Left without a note
Twenty bucks in my pocket
Closed the door and put on my coat

And I'm running
I'm running
Yeah I'm running
I'm running, I'm running away

One day she's gonna find me
With a gun in her hand
Theta's when she will remind me
Things didn't go as planned
Oh yeah

So I've gotta keep moving
Try to put off the day
She stares me down with that evil eye
And she blows me away

So I'm running
I'm running
Yeah I'm running
I'm running, I'm running away

Mixed in Logic 11
Logic Drummer
Software organ
Guitar
Bass
Vocals
Harmonica

I really like how chaotic the music gets after the verse which ends with "Things didn't go as planned", great sonic story telling.  I was also impressed with the pianie (however that's spelt, the upright piano's you see in honky tonk bars in movies) playing as well.

I get some skynyrd vibes for sure! Well executed!

wow, and all that with an earbud while there's other people around? dude, awesome!

Soloing on theme 100%. Not only did you crush the southern rock/Texas blues style, but as I listen to WB at work, this song started in the background and I was like "...I bet this is Paisleyfrog" - and I was RIGHT.
You, friend, have a STYLE.

Thanks! That's actually an organ with a REALLY heavy click. I wanted to add exactly what you're talking about (had the track loaded and everything), but just ran out of time. Still want to play around with that, maybe another week.

FREEBIRD! big_smile

Thanks smile Their debut is one of my all time favorite albums, it's perfect. To me, it defines southern rock.

Thanks! The basic riff, yeah smile ...I did the initial tracking in the studio later that night.

It's unfortunate that recording with bluetooth is pretty much unusable due to latency. Not gonna complain too much though, it's still pretty goddamn magical that in two minutes I can create a rhythm section to play along with on my phone smile

I like it! This would actually be a good song to listen to while running. Haha. If the tempo was a little faster, it would be a good running cadence too. Love the harmonica.

Gosh I love that harmonica. Perfect with the guitar. And the whole thing has just a whisper of Iggy Pop, love it.
