Babyhole

Let's do some....oh, I don't know. Electronica genres are like metal genres, there’s a million of them. The Logic Drummer called the beat Tech House, we'll go with that.
Cover pic is from the tunnel connecting the Don Q Inn in Dodgeville to the restaurant next door (before the restaurant burned down).
Starting out weird. And it doesn't get any less weird from this point on, just to let you know.
"Babyhole" is one of those things that entered my group's lexicon about 35 years ago. Some friends had just moved into their college rental for the year, and were looking the place over. Like a lot of college housing in this area, the house was about 100 years old. And in the basement, there was this creepy hole in the wall, about chest high. The immediate question was "WTF is that?" To which someone quipped, "In a house this age, you gotta expect a certain number of babyholes." So babyhole became the name for anything creepy and dark with unknown purpose (and might be where you get or leave babies.)
Still with me? OK.
So on to the music this week. I had thoughts about continuing to work with drum mixing this week, but nothing was really clicking in the realm of FrogCore. I started and gave up on about five ideas in quick succession before I decided to leave it alone for the night.
That night I had a dream. I was going down into a friend's basement in college, and there was a rave party going on. One of my friends was the DJ and the beat was thumping. Looked over and there was a hole in the wall. I knew it was the babyhole. The music then shifted to a song with the words, "MY HOUSE HAS A BABY HOLE, BABY BABY BABY HOLE, BABY HOLE BABY HOLE, BABY BABY BABY HOLE."
The hole had been converted into an architectural feature, going up to the first floor with incorporated glass block. It was very tasteful.
It's hard to pass up an idea like that when the universe drops it into your lap. So I sat down that evening, played around and this track came together in a couple of hours. This song is wildly silly, but it incorporate a couple goals I've had for a while. One is to use a vocoder....never tried one before! I've also been wanting to work with Logic's Quick Sampler. The Teen and I were playing around with it earlier in the week (and giggling furiously), so that also may be where this track came from. Also finally learned how to remove a section of the song from the middle and have the master track automation come along for the ride. Which is good, because this track was about 30 seconds too long at first.
It's been a while since I've had some dream music come to me. But why oh why did it have to be with a track called Babyhole?
