Sunlight Icicles (Winter)

By orangedrink on January 21, 2018 11:31 pm

This is the sequel to "Carved By Glaciers".

I wrote the beginning in about 2014 or so, and wrote the final glockenspiel melody 40 minutes before the deadline.  That's Weekly Beats in a nutshell!

Ask the audience: Does the low "organ" stand out enough?  Too much?  Did the ambient noise work for you?

I liked how it kind of begins chaotically and then the main melody emerges into the sunlight so to speak. Definitely liked the ambient noise.

Great composition really fits the ideas of winter and frost. I think the organ fit well in mix. Great work once again!

Great build. I wouldn't call it relaxing, more driving & emerging.

Yeah great build. I like when the pads come in. I think the mix of the low organ is quite nice, not being too obvious just adding some wheight and harmonic content.

PS.:
Glockenspiel? I thought that you would call it chimes, or is that only these winddriven bell things? Google translate sucks!

Another grand slam, Drew.

great composition. The low organ needs more sub-bass for me. Ambient noise is the salt in the soup.

Yeah, this has some punch to it that I wasn't expecting. Great composition and the ending is really nice!

really nice kinda baroque vibe. agreed w other commenters that the organ works well, tho i also agree w Q-rosh that it be even better with some boosted lower frequencies! the noise & distortion building and twisting throughout the piece works really well as a counterpoint to the light melody voicing & phrasing, enjoyed the pairing a lot!

it is a very nice composition. My headphones are a bit fucked up at the moment so it is hard to tell whether the balance is perfect and whether the organ stands out enough. But I promise I'll listen again once i buy my new headphones (hopefully tomorrow!)

so pretty!

Organ?

You have a diverse start to this year! This is nice and evocative. I like the ambient textures and the glock. Organ mix is ok I think, it could maybe fade back in places.

Audience likey! I'm ice skating as I write this!!! ... well metaphysically smile

Lovely and hypnotic!

Cool, I like that interpretation of the feeling as well.

I have no idea if it is a Glockenspiel, but I did mean bell thingies!

Thanks folks, yeah, I think I agree that maybe it needed something - I didn't think to try adding sub-bass but now I am going to try it and am fairly sure that's what it needed.  See?  We are better together, thanks WB fam! smile

Uh, it's not really an organ but I meant that "warbly bass thing" that comes into the piece, second, after the "piano thing"

Thanks!  I'm going to look at the mix again before any future release.  I think you are right and I want to look into learning about EQ compression, because I think that could solve it.
