Rattlesnaker

By orangedrink on March 22, 2020 11:55 pm

I streamed a show last Friday from my basement!  It is on the Orange Drink Facebook page, but I will upload it to YouTube shortly.

I also got a Model:Cycles synth!  I purchased it from WeeklyBeats' very own Hot Science!  (Thank you heart) and shout out to 0F aka Pselodux who actually consulted on the development on the synth and has PRESETS AND PATTERNS ON THE MACHINE, Y'ALL! :-)  I love FM synthesis and this will be a perfect entry point for me.

This was my first real attempt at programming something and playing live.  I recorded a live jam and then edited out the "wait what button do I press" moments.  I rarely, rarely, rarely do live hardware stuff, so I hope to learn this machine in and out in order to do a performance one day!

This is all done on one 16 step pattern - just trying to keep it simple as I am still learning.  There is so much variation you can do though, between the programming and the live tweaking.

The sizzle hi-hat made me think of a rattlesnake, but the droning bass also brought a slithering pattern to mind, so I was very happy when the concept and the execution came together at the same time.

Also, I found a Derek Jacobi pic I've never seen before, so I think I'm actually having a great day today.

Derek says: "Rattlesnaker!  Keep your distance!"

Digging the stripped down sound!  Totally different direction. This would make for an awesome live performance as well!

Thanks so much for listening!  Yeah, I don't know if you are familiar with CONTAINER, but he was a big influence for me to get this synth and maybe kinda do this style.

This is basically my goal in life smile Thank you >3

The drink that is orange! Nice one! Would be super dope with some super dope 80s vocoder vocals saying things like 'Extremmme' 'Break!' 'Power to the People' etcetc

Looking forward to see you jammin' live. I really fear that "wrong button" moments, so double cheer for you!!!

You built a pretty decent atmosphere with just one machine. Great effort! I'm sure you'll be working wonders in no time with it, Orangedrink smile

I need to watch your Facebook vid. This week was like Orangedrink Light—half the sugar but still all the delicious sound.

Is there a style you do not master?
Awesome track again.Quite dark, but in a good way smile
So you recorded it live? It does sound very organic in the buildup, so it does make sense ...
Great us of the hihats and then that dark drone ... ooomph!

Pure rhythmic delight and the dark synth sound coming in is super effective.  Love that moment near the end when it detunes a little bit.

Nice, I love how that bass "slides" right in and the modulation on that bass, intrigued to hear more of this synth.

I'm listening to this on repeat which is something I rarely do with any music...I'm just in the mood for these kinds of drums and this one delivers! Love it

Yes!  I actually had a similar thought but I wanted to use the hardware soley - but i'm totally on the same wavelength - like those hip-hop sample record-type of samples!!

I will hopefully have it posted to YouTube soon!  LOL I love the idea of Orangedrink Light - low on instruments and variation, but high on concept (hopefully)

It is so fun to do that kind of stuff live with this machine!

REALLY really really REALLY flattered that you put it on repeat.  I actually did the same - There is something to how dark and fat and strangely noisy some of these tones are. heart

That synth sounds really interesting, love FM stuff for sure.

Sort of menacing! The Model:Cycles looks pretty interesting. Really dig those drum tones!

wow! great piece smile

woah! def a new style, dig this. never heard of Model:Cycles but gonna have to check it out. sounds cool. the bass sounds enormous

your track reminded me a bit of Jeff Mills (the legendary detroit producer)...if you've never heard/seen him, this video where he plays a TR-909 live is incredible:

Loving those countering hats.  Between the snare and those hats it's like the snake is breakdancing.  The wavering synth just sits so nicely in the beat especially on those pitch downs.  Yais i like!

Wow, never would have guessed those drums were FM. I'm digging it

The Rhythm reminds me of a Kraftwerk style.
As always Excellent work!
