Outside The Golden Bullion Casino

By orangedrink on March 29, 2020 11:02 pm

In Street Fighter II, Balrog's (the boxer) stage was at the Golden Nugget casino.  To avoid copyright infringement, in Street Fighter V, they changed the name to the Golden Bullion casino.

This is another track on the Model:Cycles.  Last week's track was dark, downbeat, threatening, harsh, and heavy.  I basically tried to do the exact opposite: light, upbeat, friendly, calm, and jazzy.  I still haven't been feeling in that great of a mood with everything going on, so there aren't multiple sections here.  The Model:Cycles has a swing function, and I was trying to figure out how to program this rhythm "straight" so then I could turn the swing up to get it to where it is now.  I couldn't do the triplet division calculations, so I just adjusted individual pattern timings and lengths by ear so it sounded correct.  Maybe a future project will be to figure out how to do a swing song and then have it come in and out of swing.  That could be wild.  Is it mastered too loud?

I do want to say that I was in a really bad mood, forcing myself to write something, and guitar and drums weren't really yielding anything, and the Model:Cycles made me forget everything for a bit and have some fun.  I'm trying to learn swing drumming on the actual drums, so that inspired this rhythm, which is actually something that I can't play (YET!) smile

This reminded me of the SNES Vegas Stakes soundtrack, and I've been thinking about learning how to play Balrog on Street Fighter, so here we are, flat broke, smelling of stale cigarettes, necktie undone, sitting outside the Golden Bullion Casino.

Synchronicity in action... I have a casino track this week, too.  Also I watched the movie 'Tolkien' last night and when Derek Jacobi popped up I thought of you.  This has a sort of downbeat video game chill vibe to it that works really well.

Wow, you're kidding!  COSMIC CASINOS is the name of our band. Did you like Tolkien?  I'm obviously going to see it because of my man smile

Thanks, I'm glad you found it downbeat, chill and video gamey - def. what I wanted.

Definitely getting some FF7 "lurking in the darkness" vibes of this one. Such an iconic sound smile

Yeah, I thought the movie was pretty good.  I was pretty into Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit in my younger days, but I never really knew all that much about Tolkien himself, so it was interesting to learn about his life.  And your man has a not huge, but definitely important role in it.

quirky and fun

Mysterious and mellow.  Nice!  Love that (bell?) sound on the melody, by the way.

this track is excellent. the chord changes are very ambiguous in a good way. upbeat, but also...sideways sounding? I am impressed with the range of sounds, FM can be very over the top. I like how the rhythms kind of circle back on itself, gives it an introspective/trance feeling

Yes! This is what i'm talking about! Those chords coming in are just magnificent! Great stuff man!!!
Do you know this track? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkO2VTkDQyo
Somehow it reminds me a lil bit of it! (and that's a huge compliment, cause it's released on my favourite label)
Hope you're doing okay! Strange times now, ... Hope you are safe!

Love the positive and easy mood in here. Nice chords and the beautiful melodies bring up happiness.
Well done. The mastering was OK. Not too loud.

Shoryuken make a good track!

We should play some SFV! I haven't spent that much time playing that version and need to practice more.

Digging the jazzy hats and that sand paper snare.  The beat has a good swagger. Got to play the penny slots at the Golden Bullion after I've spent all my quarks at the Neutrino Casino down the block. What we got to lose? Hope to checkout the live show on Fri!

Perfect way to describe it. I agree on the choice of tones for this tune. They meld perfectly.

Those hats have some awesome sizzle to them! Dig the synth tones too. This is light and chill, which is nice. Digging what you've done with the cycles so far.

The thing about swing is that a sense of rhythm is, for the most part, optional.

Great work dude, keep up.

You may not have found it on the cycles but I'm feeling those swings fo sho.  The chord prog has a nice hypnotic feel to it.  Yay for cycles!

Yeah this works, I think the melody really tied it together nicely for me. Are all these sounds from the Model:Cycles?

Ah, welcome to the jazz club, nice smile  This is very relaxed stuff, with the great lead going places on top of it all. Somewhat surprising regarding your background story for this track, but you could turn it into a positive vibe for the listener, Great!

Nailed the upbeat vibe on this, mix sounds great, like the playfulness of the melody and those cymbals have a nice jazzy sound.  I used to love playing video games, but I was terrible at Street Fighter, I always hated it when my friends started playing that game.
