Bumble Shuffle Hive Hop

By orangedrink on August 23, 2020 11:01 pm

My mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion is making each week tougher!  Now my enjoyment only lasts once I get a good song idea, and it ends right after I'm done working on the track.  Better than nothing I suppose?

I apologize to everyone whose comments I have not responded to or tracks I have yet to check out.

Since this is my own little blog/social network site - I'll tell you that I had an okay week, I'm working on getting rid of a lot of belongings (selling some old SNES/NES games!) and it is emotionally challenging because I want to hold on to everything, but I really need to get rid of the clutter (also emotional clutter) and I could use the income to help with all these studio repairs.  We are still battling the bees, but making progress.  I just found a huge hole to the outside in the basement, and just filled it with expansion foam.  I got an adjustable desk and got it fixed up and I love it.  It is not in the music studio, it is in the office, but I am spending a LOT less time online since standing makes you cognizant of how long you've been there.  A few weeks ago I clocked myself at spending 10 hours sitting in front of the computer.  Yikes.

This track was done 100% on the OP-1, edits and effects on Ableton, mastered with Ozone.  My husband and I enjoyed a laugh once I realized that I subconsciously chose a bee motif for the synth sound.  THEY'RE INSIDE MY MIND!  I kind of come from the Nine Inch Nails school of melodic dissonance, so shoutouts to Trent Reznor.  Last week I picked a key and scale and tried to do a key change.  This time, I tried to make it as "tastefully bad" as possible.  There is a hard A/B switch that maybe I could have finessed, or does it work?  I had a lot of fun doing fine tune cut and paste repeat edits - haven't done that in a long time.

Diez is taking a nap outside and he looks SO CUTE

Video games I've been playing: Street Fighter V, Metal Gear Survive, Fortnite, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 Demo (so excited!) - Thinking about starting a big story type game, but not sure which (maybe Last Of Us 1)

Books I've been reading: Decluttering/Minimal lifestyle books, art books, books on how to draw portraits, a cool mystery/crime short story anthology, a romance novel that was dumb

Movies/TV: I randomly discovered the TV show "Bob heart  Abishola" and now am watching "Mike & Molly" which features the same male actor.  I watched this awesome Belgian arthouse film from 1975 called Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (It's a name and address).  If you have any interest in seeing this, please do not read the Wikipedia page or look up any descriptions because some important details are immediately spoiled.  I thought it was incredible and very creative and well done.  It's lauded as an seminal work in feminist film, as it was created by a female director (Chantal Akerman) and a mostly female cast.  If you like abstract film and are a patient viewer, I would highly recommend it.

It feels good to talk; I feel like nobody really listens because everyone is so preoccupied with emotions/feelings.  I feel like y'all are the only ones who listen because you listen to my work.  (which makes me feel like a bad friend for not listening to everyone's tracks, but what are ya gonna do).  I'm also trying to spend less time on social media; whenever I go on there, I see all these vacation and party pictures from people who aren't taking any precautions and it makes me feel anxious/resentful/negative.  I guess I really need to just focus on art, exercise/health, and cleaning & fixing up the house!  Please enjoy yet another color study of Derek Jacobi. heart

This is real nice. That bee sound is slickly designed. AM? If this had more of an industrial metal beat it would not sound out of place amongst '90s Marilyn Manson. Soz to hear you're havin' such a rough time. heart

Thank you!  It's from the OP-1 "Cluster" synth module which is described as a "multiple wave cluster".  Big Marilyn Manson fan so I love that comparison.  And thanks for your support and for reading/listening, it certainly makes me feel a lot better smile

It really evokes bees for sure.  I could picture a big old hive of them just buzzing around.  We've been trying to do some de-cluttering at our house, too.  It's been long overdue and it's a big task because there's so much of it and it's sometimes difficult to part with things that you develop weird sentimental attachments to, but there really is such a thing as too much "stuff."  Anyway, I hope you'll find a way to sustain the joy and inspiration in creating and sharing.

Super impressed the whole thing is done on the OP-1. Love how you've managed to pull out so many cool industrial vibes. For me the OP-1 is very much just an idea-capture machine, so hearing stuff like this is really inspiring.

Now that you mention the bees, i cannot get that out of my head. I love the section from 1:40. It is kinda fun and bubbly but then the counterpoint bass and more so the line from 2:03 gives it a really dark vibe. Nice work!

I hope it's only bees you are dealing with. We have asian hornets here and believe me, these things are not to be messed with.

So many people here are on the OP-1 but you all get so very different sounds! Keep up the tracks, that was very enjoyable.

Oh yes. Another very consequent way of performing. You pushed the song forward to a kind of light disturbing dissonance and playing around with that mood. I can recognize the little tape tricks, I am familiar with now too. I have the OP for two weeks now and love it. Keep on chopsticking....

Very nice distorted sounds.

Hope everything gets good without the old NES games sold, the bees and stupid people... Here in Quebec, it is getting close to the back to school date, and there are many anti mask manifestations (especially for kids, but some individuals that are pissed off for the mandatory mask on closed public space as well) and when I see that I am like you and ask myself how good it is to spread information that fast and to give that much space of opinions to that many people.

We should live as a society, we should have taken this year pandemic as an opportunity to change the way we live but from what I see, so far it is a big fail...

I'll just try to live as good as I can, I cannot do more. Hope the fun to go make some music will come back soon but I can understand... I have better weeks than other too.

Keep it UP! Good job on the track again this week. smile

I'm right there with you, getting rid of everything I possibly can because I'm moving across Canada next month in a minivan...it's always tough.

Also play The Last of Us if you haven't, excellent game!

And great track, I'm a fan of the melodic dissonance. smile

I'm loving/hearing those Reznor vibes.  The beat evokes memories of his track for Tomb Raider, "Deep".  Oooh and that dissonant flutey part even moreso.  Excellent bit crush sweep!  I feel ya on those peeps enjoying social things.  I'm pretty much a hermit but still I miss hangin out with my best friend and just being able to have a schmoke and a beer while grilling something up.  PS that mystery/crime shorty story anthology sounds cool, what's the name?  Love me some crime/truecrime schtuff.  Oh!  and I def understand the good feeling when you finish a track.  For me it lasts til maybe Monday afternoon when I start the whole anxiety process all over in ma head! Ugh...

The bees go marching one by one. I like the feel and pace of this, had me nodding along and getting hypnotized. The bees are drawing me into their hive. I think it would be cool to be queen bee. Or maybe a litte wierd. Too much power? Got a good buzz saw sound going for sure, nice one! Fun to read you description. I feel same way, here in WB feels like one of only good places to share a few thoughts in a good community! Keep on keepin on!

Dope hihats on this one, like how they keep changing up, and the bee vibe works, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I do always take the time to read them.  I hate departing with stuff, every so often my wife makes me throw stuff out, it can be emotional, but I guess I will survive without that t-shirt I haven’t worn in 10 years.

Hard to believe all the capabilities of the OP-1.  Got to learn more about it.  Would not have guessed all this production was done on that little keyboard.  That Heavy brassy synth is so fat and the detuning is so tasty, I can chew on it. The flute sounding synth is almost like a mellotron. Really sharp drums as well.

This ones really fun man, love the synth sounds you came up with.  I can relate with the struggle of throwing out old shit, its tough. Luckily I have my parents to show me what the future will hold if I never throw anything out.  They're not on the extreme end of hoarding, but they're close...Anyways, good luck with the bee battle.

Dig the melodic polyrhythm that kicks in around 1:30!

p.s. I think we need an Aaron remix where he shouts "BEEEES!!!" over the entire track
