Axiom Verge Remix: Trace Lives

By orangedrink on January 28, 2018 11:59 pm

Axiom Verge is an incredible video game that was created by one person, Thomas Happ.  He also wrote and composed the soundtrack!  This song is a remix/remake of his piece "Trace Awakens" which you can listen to here: https://axiomverge.bandcamp.com/track/trace-awakens

I used the original synthesizer sample, but then pitched it up to create a three note progression.  The rest was done with drums and guitars, and I either recreated the melody lines, or created new ones that I felt captured the new direction I was trying to go in.  The middle breakdown is done on the OP-1 and is meant to bring us back into the "video game world" and then have us come busting back out.  The main character of the game, Trace, is trapped in an alternate world, and this part of the song is where he is freed.  Trace lives!

If you haven't played the game, I highly recommend it.  Everything you love about Metroid and Castlevania with a boat load of awesome.  Aside from being a huge fan of the game, I was honored to have been asked to create remixes of the soundtrack for a documentary that is included in the physical "Multiverse Editions" of the game.  You can buy the game and the documentary at http://www.axiomverge.com.  The Nintendo Wii U version (coming soon) will actually come with a CD of my remixes, with the Orange Drink name on it!  It's been a lifelong dream for me to be involved in a video game, on any level, so you can't imagine how thrilled I am to work on a game that I was already a huge fan of.

Dreams do come true.

Good to see you here again! I dig this remix.

Cool stuff.  It has a little bit of a krautrock feel to it but is definitely its own thing.  The driving synth is really awesome and the drumwork is nice, too.

Looking forward to the notes.

Gorgeous, sweeping, epic.  Outstanding groove, great guitar, excellent chord selection.

wow this is awesome!

Nice build, great mix.

Powerful drummig and cool guitartextures. Like this track.

This is some pretty gnarly stuff.

Big! Love that build and guitar work, good drums. Cool track!

Cool drums and nice mix... i like those synths wich are coming from the back...

epic sound from the start, then only gets better when the drums come in, killing it this year, another great track!

It's like 'The Running Man' versus... ummm.... some late 80s experimental wacko avant-pop band smile ... cOoL!

Great filter sweeping bass sound. Those drums are insane... really push it forward and I like the soft distortion. Real instruments or samples? Very cool!

I will gladly take the krautrock comparison!  Thanks for the kind words on the drums, I hope to make that priority this year and learn some new things.

Thanks, the bass is courtesy of Mr. Thomas Happ, creator of the original!  And yes, that is yours truly playing the drums and I used two microphones to record the kit.  I'm flattered you had to ask, ha!
