[Untitled Piano]

By orangedrink on April 22, 2018 10:34 pm

I got an Ableton Push 2!  I wrote this on it, and I played all of the notes live.  I set the key to F and the scale to Phrygian and here we are!  It is amazing to be able to set a scale and then "turn off" all the notes that aren't in the scale.  FINALLY!  It makes me feel like a genius.

I saw the film "Call Me By Your Name" this past week and it deeply affected me.  There are some beautiful piano pieces in the film and I was inspired to do something that felt carefree and magical.  This is the result.

Help me come up with a good title!

It definitely has an upbeat and joyous quality.  As far as titles, I'm looking at the picture and "The Magic Sash" popped into my head.

So joyous.

Maybe you can incorporate the phrygian into the title?

Gets progressively more complex and interesting. Really like all the piano lines layered at the end as they descend into the reverb.

I have not seen the film yet but am connected to it in several ways.  I am an associate of the screenwriter James Ivory, and currently producing a line of t-shirts featuring a rendering of Timothée Chalamet by artist Andrew Mania, that James Ivory had painted on his tuxedo front when he accepted the academy award for his screen adaptation. Hope to see it soon!

You let the phrygians in, and they'll take over...

Sounds like some sitcom/good vibe film.  It's very major sounding for Phrygian though?  Lovely effect at the end.

Very uplifting piece and love the fadeoutro especially.  Nice work!

A friend is trying to sell me a Push for years already (he's affiliated to Ableton) and for some reason I was never too sure about it. But now I'm hearing you do this after just a day or two ...
So you'd recommend it?

Very cool. Sounds like a real pianist performing, not like an electronic musician pushing buttons. I think you nailed the feel of this piece!
