A friend linked to this story last week, and part of the headline phrase sounded like the title of a song by The Fall.  I kept thinking of this imaginary song, and decided to do it this week.  I didn't do a vocal track at all, so you'll have to imagine Mark E. Smith intoning over the top.

Drum samples were individual drum hits of a decent trap kit.  Maybe I should have replaced the crash cymbal with something with a much longer decay.

Three tracks of Kalamazoo KG-2--two with the bridge pickup on, one with the neck pickup.  One track of 80s Japanese Epiphone P/J bass (P pickup only; the J's broken right now; they're cheapo EMG Selects). All of 'em into Ableton Live, all of them on differently tweaked Amp plugins, based on the Boost preset. The big surprise for me was the JJ Burnel bass sound when I put it through the same Boost-based settings.  Everything's glued together with a bit of reverb based on the Small Room plugin.

Seriously, though, what is it with these Tory politicians?

Somehow the simplicity of the straight snare adds the right groove factor. I don't  know how exactly that works but great track. Thanks for sharing.

The layering all sounds really good.  The loose riffs wrap around the snare like a glove.  I rarely use live instruments (because I can't play any) and I'm always envious of the thicker texture that comes with live instrumentation.

Loving that raw sound - anything that sounds like Keith Levene's guitar rig is fine by me smile

Holy mackerel.  That's high praise. Yes, definitely an influence.  In this case, probably a bit unintentional, but a byproduct of tracking with dark headphones.

Thanks, everyone!  The goal here was relentlessness, and it does seem to work.  Lots of snare!

Niiiice bass! (and the rest is great too!)

really sweet bass sound that rips right thru the speakers smile  groovy track!

relentless driving track. Works great.

This is awesome! Also it's cool to find someone on here from near my neck of the woods! (Morgantown wv)

Thanks, everyone!  The bass really was a happy accident. Pretty sure JJ Burnel used a P-bass in the classic Stranglers stuff.  Wonder what the rest of the chain was. Probably just an amp on 10.

A friend thought he could envision Hugh Cornwell over the top of this, which now has me envisioning a MES/HC collaboration.

Thanks, Janx!  Upper Ohio Valley represent!  (Now that I think of it, how's the water situation down there?)  Do you guys get up here for shows at all?

Great stuff not quite my cuppa which is usually electronic infused. Definately good fun to rock out though. The snare or high hat for me was a little high in the mix it was panned slightly to one ear which could be a little better centred. Keep up the good work!
