Nontotient

I played with a few rhythmic and melodic patterns this week which didn't add up to much, so in very late revision, I ended up throwing it all out, and starting over with something much funkier.  I used a couple of K3M drum machines, a track of generic hand percussion, and a track of handclaps in Impulse.  There's some Operator (bass, fuzzy organ, Smackdown arpeggio synth at low octaves for even more percussion), Analog (electric-piano-ish lead line), and a return channel of feedback (EQ8, Flanger, Simple Delay, Utility to sum to mono, hard limiting, and auto-pan).  Some of the Impulse instruments also go through Redux for a bit of dirtying, going down to 12 and 8 bit.

After I generated the MIDI loops for the instruments, I did one pass of triggering them in Session view to record the structure, and after a few tweaks, added the feedback performance, which was one take.   Overall, kind of drifty and a bit trance-inducing. Not totally sure if it's successful (those high feedback frequencies are a lot to take, and the rest is either hypnotic or samey), but here it is.  Now to try to deal with the ragweed pollen in the air.

The title refers to numbers which aren't in Euler's totient function φ, like 34.

Mellow with just right amount of syncopation. High frequencies not a problem on my desktop speakers.

Are you a mathematician?

Thanks!  The day job is software engineer, so I'm more of a mathematics appreciator, I'd guess. I'm reading some signal processing theory for some Pure Data patches I'm developing, and I find my calculus is a bit rusty.  But since this is partly where my head is at, when a title isn't otherwise obvious,  I find myself looking for something relating to the number of the week.

This is great, Maurice. It really takes you on a journey. It starts off with a slow walk with the atmospheric beginning, to a faster skip, to a rolling ride. I imagine a cosmic tour of a new planet, much like Pandora in the movie Avatar.

Thanks for creating music for me to daydream to.

I dig it! Trancey ain't bad and the track definitely has a cool pulse

i really dig that groove! The highs didn't draw negative attention for me! Nice piece!

Calm and super enjoyable.
