Duality

By onezero on January 6, 2020 12:01 am

This one came together late--bit of a crowded week, so I had just a bit of time in the late evenings to put together some drum patterns and a bit of keyboard...put down some bass that I was hearing (though parts might be too busy). Then I had the idea to put a bunch of contrapuntal guitar on (Epi Moderne through Vox Wah), most of which...didn't sound all that good.  So I rearranged it with less emphasis on guitar, more electric piano VST, but it was missing something, so at the last minute (1/2 hour ago) I pulled out the PureSalem Mendiola and put it through the Reuss RF-01 and Vox Wah, tracking some distorted lead.  And here we are.

Sends: one convolution reverb, and two instances of Echo with different values (1/8 dotted slightly out of sync, vs 1/4 + 1/8 dotted in sync).  Some automation on drum sends, and auto pan on clean guitar and keys. Bass got the usual EQ8 100-and-below rolloff, with some Cabinet for air.

A couple hours after the deadline, I listened to the rendered file, and found that I'd rendered it with one of the Echo sends solo'd--so a whole bunch of instruments were just plain missing.  That's fixed now.  (Actual upload time was something like 10PM GMT on January 12.)

Title from the two-ish nature of two, but also the duality of clean and fuzz guitars.

haha that gif is great for this. bass tone is xcellent

much chunkier and funkier! that fuzz is wicked and the bassline moves just right

Very nice, this bass tone is just buttery smooth.

Funky! very well done. The way you program drums is really organic, feels good. Love the fuzzy guitars...

That kick sounds great. Youre dipping your bass out below 100hz and giving it to a very fat kick? Sounds great!

Thank you!  Yep, that's totally the reason.  Sub-100 bass sounds great to me...but it totally gets in the way of the kick, so...I usually roll off between 6 and 9 dB, occasionally more. (These particular pickups are weird with flatwounds.)

SO you had to delete your upload BEFORE it went online? I've always wished if WB allowed to substitute a currently online and already uploaded song.

That "dirty" drum kit shakes my table. This jam reminds me of the best "Ill Communication" era Beastie Boys. Really funky

That's one hell of a funky psychedelic jam. There's a lot of cool stuff in here, I like the way the instruments are panned, the echos make it psychedelic, the crash has a nice crunch, that bass kick dominants, the bass funks along, the electric piano is super tasteful, etc. Etc.

Haha I second this Steve Coogan gif even though I have no idea what it's from (Alan Partridge?). Great track, very funky!

I know I've mentioned it in the past but often when I listen to your music, a whole movie starts unfolding in my head! You're telling stories with your music and I love it.

like that vox wah!!! nice touch!

Yeah this is funky!
