Boperator

Another one that really fought me.  Similar to my piece for week 32 that used different tracks of Ableton's Analog as the only instrument, I thought I'd do one that used Ableton's Operator as the only instrument.  There's a lot of possibility for manipulation, but I think I'm less of an additive FM synthesis fan than I am of subtractive analog(ish) synthesis.

I worked on some beats throughout the week, threw them out, and went with some others. I ran into trouble with the melody and pad lines--they seemed too straight-organ-y, but then too FM-y when I added extra voices.  In the end, a couple 8-bit voices in the bass worked out, and then I tacked on a coda with the more organ-like stuff.

Does it work? It got a positive review from the kids, so I'm going with it.

love it. Like the psudeo organ treatments.

Congrats for tickling these nice sounds out of Operator. I especially like progression with the pads towards the end. Great job!

You got a positive review from this kid as well. Really love the loopy feel.

Thanks!  Yeah--I wasn't sure where it ought to go, but I wanted to keep it in, so as the coda it gets to be the listener's payoff for sticking with it.

Thanks, Jim!  It does have a sort of goofy bounce to it, in a way.

Progression and the shifting around makes this a nice piece ..
I do like that exploration feel and the bounce delays going on.

and, also, organs 4 lyf.
