Argos

Welcome back, everyone!

During 2021, I kept up over on Streak Club, and the last few months were all-guitar pieces. This one's a return to drums and bass as well, but kind of a drifting mood.

Drums: Ableton 64 pad kit Jazz, with automated on/off with membrane Corpus, convolution reverb send, and automated echo send. Max Humanizer throughout. The drum track is also going to the sends only--I wanted a distant feeling to the drums for this one.

Bass: 80s Epiphone P-J with both pickups on. EQ-8 bass rolloff (~6-9 dB) from 100-62 Hz.

Guitar: PureSalem Mendiola (two normal tracks, one reversed). No pedals (due to laziness).

Sends: two convolution reverbs (one with bass suppression) and one echo. Wide & Warm audio rack plugin on the output for compression/eq.

The title comes from a chain of association: this turns out to be the 419th weekly piece I've worked on, so I went looking for interesting associations with 419. It turns out that in BCE 419, Sparta's King Agis II attacked the city of Argos, which resisted enough to force a treaty. (The 419 scams weren't quite as interesting.)

Thank you for listening!

You haven't skipped a beat.

lovet this

Love these sounds - I wouldn’t be able to put something like this together, I never know what will come next! Great vibes

Good to see you again (though last time was a week ago on weekly streaks smile )
Tasty jazz, great bass lines and subtle guitar usage. Love it.

Nice curious mellow vibe going on here. Like it very much.

I really miss your bass playing.  wish we could jam together one day!

welcome back and congrats for keeping it going in the off year!

lol why is this so funny

Very impressive you kept it going all of 2021, sounds like a lot of people (myself included) could not.  Cool first track, very spacey!

The soft and melting guitar is so good!

  happy new year friend!

vibey. sounds like you're in control of the sound you want from the instruments.

Very nice.

great soundstage and composition. mellow, open, peaceful, warm. i like.

Thanks! I did assemble it from compatible parts. In the arrangement step, I did a lot of cutting--rarely having everything going at once, and generally trying to vary which parts were playing together. There is repetition, though, so familiar things come back around. But yeah, not a completely obvious structure. Thank you!

Good to see you as well! I'm hoping to be able to do more commenting here in WB! I guess this is kind of jazzy, with those suspended and minor 7th chords in there.

Thank you, orangedrink! I'd like to have the chance to jam or collaborate!  I'd taken a bit of a break last year from playing bass, and now things feel a bit different. (Also I'm using half-rounds, which...aren't quite as comfortable as the flats. I might put those back on.)

Thank you! I do like the idea of keeping going--there are pieces that now exist but wouldn't have otherwise.

Thank you! I'm definitely a fan of the Bigsby vibrato. Just a touch of pressure on it, and you get that subtle, expressive bend.
