It is to Work

By OleJazzer on March 24, 2024 11:18 pm

This short piece came to me as a stark difference between what some folks think of as work. As a 14/15 year old playing gigs way out of my depth but learning a tremendous amount and getting paid (which gave me a sense of wonder) I found myself arguing with adults (not my parents) that it was work even if I did have fun doing it.

thanks. In 1964 I played my first gig and they paid me $35. I could not believe I made $35 for four hours worth of work that didn’t even seem like work. I only made a dollar an hour and my regular job, the best part was I could do this every week or two.

Sounds like a great experience! Yet, some years later, and musicians are still having to argue to get paid. Well, thanks, 14-year-old OleJazzer for sticking up for yourself, and thanks present OleJazzer for keeping up the good Work smile

You are welcome. Over the next few years, I learned the value of contract and stuff like that, and the guy I played with were adults, and they taught me so much about being a professional musician.

I think musicians will always be fighting to get paid even with contracts and everything and then of course there’s always” band what band” Or” what kind of music do you guys play? We stop listening to that we changed we only listen to._____”
😀

Lovely music and nice background informations.
