Tap Danse Macabre

By Nyarlos on March 1, 2020 9:25 pm

This week was a self imposed challenge, and I probably made too many challenges in one go. First was to do the "power trio" thing, where each instrument only gets one track, so the real challenge is to make one track of guitars sound heavy and interesting without layering, (except I chucked a lead on, because why not). The second challenge I made myself was to play all the rhythm track without a guitar pick. So leaving me with tapping and hammer ons to make it feel like extreme metal, and not too cheesy Van Halen style. Not sure I achieved that, but close enough.
First time mixing up a cab in a long time, so no virtual guitars, all tracked on my Peavey 3120 Amp, with no pedals except for some POG on the intro, and some post delays etc.

This is really badass! I love the intro, so dark, sounds like a theme from an 80’s horror movie. Altogether this track sounds a bit mono-ish but I know that’s because of the challenge you imposed on yourself. It’s really good though, sounds raw and reminds me of oldschool Slayer albums. Good job dude!

3120 sounds killer, best kept secret in guitar amps.

Love the sound of the guitars and that intro drum rhythm..  The heavy drums just upped my coffee too!  Nice work! \m/

This shreds.
