Speaker Test Generi-Metal 3 - Creamback

By Nyarlos on December 18, 2022 9:05 pm

So same setup as the last 2, another bunch of similar riffs, amp, guitar, effects and everything the same, minor amp tweaks and just the 3rd of the 4 speakers, the Celestion Creamback.

Usually marketed as a vintage style speaker, this was instantly better than the 2 weeks before, 5 seconds of mic moving to get a tone, I think, at least in this cabinet, eminence has lost the battle to celestion. My go to is usually the Vintage 30, but this speaker slays honestly. Super crisp and clear, and interestingly, if you are into these things, when touching a speaker you can test its 'compliance' by seeing how easy it is to push in, usually meaning a more responsive cone. When we mounted these my tech commented how the creamback had the best sensitivity straight away. Now that is something I will check all speakers for.

Cons: Very Hifi sounding, so the bit at the start with 3 separate parts got almost too full, so I had to clean and carve a bit of space out of them, honestly hardly a problem, Id rather have it sound too full than not enough.
Very, very crisp, might not suit everyone, but Im into that shot.
Pros: Super easy to mic, everywhere sounded good, a banger of a speaker.

I always really like creamback tones, more in a "classic rock" context than metal (I am pretty noob with metal tones anyways). It rocks A LOT. Really like those  chunky riffs, I still probably think that the voicing is probably more "classic rock", which is a killer tone to me.

ROCK!

I get why you prefer this speaker so far haha, personally I love the "body" of the guitars with the texas heat. Either way you're 3/3 for pulling sick metal tones so far!
The change to triplet feel at 5:23 is tasty as. \M/

Proper comparison should come soon then, sounds really good this one
