Pulling the Wings off Bees

By Nyarlos on May 1, 2022 10:45 pm

Just wanted to make something ugly this week, but finding it hard to get past 160bpm on my rhythms, working on it. I do kind of low key like the middle chunk riff, it sort of develops backwards as it goes, with combinations of down strokes and accented doubles, turning around on itself. If I fleshed that out over more than a week, I would probably have the drums match that better, but time!!!!!

The other major thing here was use of the phaser, on the intro and all leady bits. Swirly motion that I accented with panning to make an uncomfortable movement. Sorry for the pain on your ears.

Pedals:
MXR Zack Wylde Phaser: Pretty sure this is just a standard Phase 90 with a paint job, does exactly what the classic 90 does.
BYO 5150 Pedal: Got excited to build this, cause was meant to be an amp channel clone. Only when I finished did I realise it was the crunch channel it was modelled off, did a mod to up the gain, still needs more to be the lead channel which was what I was hoping for.
Ibanez TS808: The reissue of the old TS, it did respond nicely with the 5150 pedal to get the gain where I needed it.
BYO Solid Metal: Amptweaker clone, an interesting metal pedal, pretty good!

I quite like those chugs... Nice tones. Solo cuts thru like a champ.

Blackstar + shitloads of esoteric pedals = heart heart heart

The bass tone there! It still finds place to live among this chuggish universe and the super busy drums.
