Mischeif

Was listening to a bit of Mayhem this week, never used to get into them, but the later albums have this dreary, depressive mood that I was in a mood for. Wanted it to be droney and dark, and the middle string and guitar melody just came out of nowhere, lots of effects on the clean, and wanted there to be just a bit of uncomfortable, so there's a Minor 2nd hanging out over the secondary clean line to be just a tiny bit painful. Would have been good to spend more time orchestrating the strings in the intro, but not bad for the time spent.

All Mesa Mk4 this week, always brings the nasty.

Pedals:
MXR GT-OD: Great drive to push any dirt channel. Love my MXR drives in general.
MXR Carbon Copy Bright: A short lived variant of the CC, don't know why it wasn't popular at the time, some people
don't like analog Delay because its too dark, so I thought this fixed that gripe.
Home Made Way Huge Geisha Drive: So badass. I accidentally sold the only Geisha Drive that came into the shop thinking I would get one later, but they were once offs. So I had to build one to get close. A high gain overdrive, up to a distortion on max settings.
Pine Springs: Spring reverb with a decent drip, quite bright for a spring type.
Seashell: Some EQD messed up chorus, worked great as not just a regular chorus, has a few settings that throb with modulation madness.
The Betterer: My build of the hated BBE Sonic Maximiser. I think these can be great or awful, depending on how much they are abused, but it can really add depth to the highs and lows, which is what they are supposed to do, but they get so much hate because they can be tiring to the ears apparently.

That clean guitar riff is eerie. Some trem picking high guitars at 2:37, yep that's black metal vibe! Have never really listened to Mayhem, but listened to some Marduk. That's a rare sound on weekly beats, viva la diversity!

Very ominous and eerie! smile I get a slight Cradle of Filth vibe from the first part, like one of the instrumentals on Dusk and Her Embrace. Good level of discomfort; enough to know it's there, but not enough to make it unpleasant to listen to.

My right ear feels lonely the first few seconds, but this song is pretty amazing all things told.

I will have to mix it down to mono though, separating treble and bass through panning is a painful experience in the long run.

god i love all these pedals.  can you tell me where i can find your guitar store videos???

also really liked that dissonance.  never heard Mayhem, got a track recommendation for me?

Hey Orange! My Store is Southern Music, u can find us on Facebook or Insta, havent been doing heaps of vids lately, but some up there! For Mayhem, try anything off "De mysteriis dom sathanas" for their old, contreversial stuff, and
"Watchers" for what they are like these days. Loved your tiny Desk vid by the way!
