Doing the Giant Elephant Rock

By Nyarlos on January 14, 2024 9:21 pm

Not all my amps are suitable for the total Brutalz, so this week I grabbed some English Crunch goodness, the Laney GH50R, and straight away conjured some vaguely Mastodon like sludge/rock/metal. I even detuned a little!!! Guitars were mostly my Ibanez FR800 none more black guitar, had Bare Knuckles in them, which are just awful, so yanked them and put in the DImarzio Super Distortion and Evolution, and leads where on my Ibanez Xiphos, cause I just gotta have that Floyd.

This Amp was discontinued before her time, I thought such a good versatile rock head, the 2 channels can be run either clean or gain, and a very pleasant reverb and comprehensive EQ section, with laney's push/pull knobs that change certain responses.

Rhythm tracks were: left the "clean" channel pushed with a low master volume, right is the gain channel with low master, high channel volume. Used the Danelectro cheap and cheerful overdrive, but I also layered a second track a bit cleaner and then whacked a big muff on there to fill out the bottom end. Delays and stuff were just the TC G Major.

The Ibanez FRs do not get the love they deserve.  Shocked the Bareknuckles didn't sound good for you, but then again I can't make a set of Seymour Duncan's sound good to save my life, so I get it.

This also makes me miss my Laney AOR.  Another underrated brand.

Song is awesome, but my only critique would to be not to be afraid of your bass.  Guitars are a bit harsh on their own, and need some low end to balance them out.

Lol, usual sunday last minute mix is the problem there!!!!! But I can never get a tone from Seymours as well, havent played enough of the fluences to judge yet, but im sure Ill hate them too lol

Since your a fellow gear hound, I highly recommend Instrumental Pickups.  Small builder from Utah who makes my favorite pickups (along with Suhr, but that doesn't fit your style as much)

got such an explosive drive to the track(killer solo too... doesn't feel overboard) heart

i wish the production was much more in my face and slamming those blasts into my forehead. The composition and arrangement was great. I'm going to look forward to your songs every week I can tell.

Nice! I can hear the Mastodon vibes but also a little In Flames as well. The half-time triplet feel at the end was pretty great.

Duuuude, that lead passage from 4:18 -> 4:25 is just magic \M/ Laney powaaaaah

uuuu I like it! Totally British vibes here.... I agree with haleja, that passage from 4:18 is insane Lol.. good job! I'm glad I found another rock musician here, there are only a few of us.
