What You Want (I Don't Know)

By NWSPR on July 19, 2020 11:34 pm

I was all set to work on the modulars again this week but I woke up and all I wanted to do was spend the day with my bass. So I went with a bubble gum classic rock sound and had some fun instead. The mix is boomy in the low end.  Did not come out tight and I won't have time to figure it out before the deadline. Have to work on that next week and figure out where I went wrong.

Bass takes the front seat to blinking lights and control volts. But the Model D does make an appearance with a 70s sound.

Not sure what it's like where you're at but very hot here, relatively speaking.  Mid to upper 90s this week.  Stay cool fool and hydrate. See you in the comments.  Hope you have a great week!

That's a sweet bass.  I like the upbeat rocking tone and that synth breakdown in the middle is really nice.  Are those handclaps I hear in there?  It seems like it cut off kind of abruptly at the end though.  It's hotter than Satan's chode here.  I think it was like 110 or something today.  But at least it's a dry heat.

Awesome man, this sounds great.  I'm listening on head phones and the low end doesnt sound bad, not sure if its more evident on bigger speakers though.  I'm sure you'll be able to clean up what you're hearing.

Really badass rock sound at the beginning and then the vocoder and synth lead really put an interesting spin on it.  The bridge part near the end is super cool too man.

Fuck yeah man, the mix is great. It pops out, bass is the king here but everything else sounds great too. Track have a fun vibe as well, the vocoder makes it a very happy song. smile . great guitar tones.

This track is rad. I love how much the bass stands out, but I also really like the guitar tone. Surprised by how well the synth fits in, too; really adds a brightness to the track.

The guitar tone is awesome. Crunchy, without too much. Just the right amount of distortion and body. The bass has a very good piano like tone. And it looks great - what bass is that? I love the studio pics going along the music.

Reminds me of the great Rock`n Roll swindle. Kind of sexpistolesk.

This is dope! Kraftwerk meets scot pilgrim without the 8-bit. Love it!

I thought the mix came out really well. It's nice and loud, the bass is deep, the snare cracks, the guitars are panned appropriately. Great sounding song.

Fun! especially the vocoder! Love the hand claps!

Really cool, loving the vocals and the overall sound here! The mix sounds pretty punchy to me smile

This strangely reminds me of the way how AC/DC makes their tracks rock. Also l had a vision of Judas Priest invaded by aliens! Great and catchy work smile.

Reminds me of 90s TV gameshow music haha, I friggin love it.

LOL! Thanks... your comment wins the day! Please elaborate... I am definitely interested in expanding into new genres and 90s TV game show music may definitely be underserved.  Love the notion of this and may want to produce a game show video for the song.  What would gameshow be? I keep thinking of 70s themed game shows like Match Game and the host with that tall slender microphone in a mod suit.

Your analysis is dead on.  My road map for the song starts with AC/DC and then the hand claps are somewhere between AC/DC and Judas Priest.  By the time the vocoder comes in, it shifts more "bubble gum" sound like Cheap Trick or ELO with the classic rock synth licks. At least that is what I was going for smile Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks! Yeah, the main bass guitar theme that kicks in at 24 seconds starts in C and riffs down to G similar to the Sex Pistols Holiday in the Sun (not sure what key that song is in but same riff).  It's like comfort food for me... like sonic Mac N Cheese with heavy emphasis on the cheeeez smile Thanks for checking it out!

Yep, those are hand claps.  Got to maintain my 80s street cred even with rock songs.  Where are you at again? Assuming you're not living on Satan's chode (whatever that is) smile 110 is natures way of say get the fuck out of here. 10 more degrees and you're pot roast.  You had an awesome track this week. Very much enjoyed. Thanks for listening, and stay out of the sun!

I don't know.  The bass guitar and synth are kind of letting me down.  The guitars have a nice bright crunch but I feel like the low end is a bit muddy.  It's really hit or miss with me.  Your mixes are consistently good! You definitely have a handle on it. Thanks for checking it out and for the feedback.

Thanks! I really like it. Probably one of the more fun tracks for me this year because I stuck to the basics and really found a guitar tone I liked without a lot of hassle.  The vocoder really changes the mood and lightens it up for me.  And I just love messing around with the vocoder anyways smile

Thanks man! High praise from the king of guitar tone. Meat and potatoes bass playing... four on the floor.  just stick to the basics and lock down to the kick drum smile

Thanks! Much appreciated.  I'm a sucker for that 70s synth and guitar sound.

Thanks! That's a 77 Gibson Ripper that I have been playing for about 30 years. Love that beast.  I really lucked out with the guitar tone. Perfect virtual amp for the style song.

Thanks! I knew it was missing something.  Look for the 8-bit remix coming soon smile

Thanks! I like most of the mix.  Definitely the snare and guitars stand out. The bass and the synth seem a bit muddy to me but the solution escaped me this week.  Just need more time and practice.

Vocoder + hand claps = party! Thanks for checking it out!

This was a fun listen!  The drum/guitar/bass combo is excellent with that fuzziness throughout. The vocoder was a nice touch too smile

Super fun! Wanna blast it in the back yard bbq while I try and stay cool. Hit 90s here in the NW too. Vocoder great touch too, nice big sound.

Dig the guitar tone.  Nice and thick!  There's some distortion going on in the right speaker but apart from that, the mix works well.

Nice.
