The Hated

By NWSPR on June 18, 2022 7:39 pm

Last week (week 23) I posted a track but decided to delete it due to unacceptable suckyness. My standards are not that high, so it was really bad smile This week I fixed the worst aspects and am comfortable enough to post it.  I'll give it a C-

What I do like about "The Hated" are the live switching of flange, chorus, and delay effects from my pedal board. I was going for a New Order / Flock of Seagulls sound and a more live effects approach seemed natural.  Very pleased with the bass and guitar tones.  The vocals are alway the weak part. Maybe the second times a charm! I'm out on vacation with the family and hope to catch up with everyone next week.

I managed to hear last week's version before the deletion and I didn't think it was that bad, but this version does sound like an improvement.  There's some good energy to this and those guitar and bass tones sound quite nice to my ears.

I really like those 80's vibes. 2m43 distorted synths tones are pretty awesome.

The effects on all the instruments here, as well as your voice, sound really great. I like the kind of doomy/grungy ending with those gnarly guitar chords haha.

Really good rock and roll stuff. so many references to the 80ies and 90ies. very well done. I can hear the Jesus and Mary chain, the cure, tuxedoon,...

Awesome dude, great stuff.  Those synth pads are sooooo luscious.  There's something that I like about that only right ear delay on your vocal too.

The vocals are very pleasant though. Perhaps maybe a little heavy on the effects for such a low pitch, but nothing terrible at all.

Love that guitar sound especially on that solo echo it gets.  Totally transported me back in time with the arrangement and overall mood.  Oooh and that snare hit that dances with the guitar hell yeah!  Well done!

Nice trip to the 80s and alternative music. I love the bass and the guitar on this track. The melody from 2:45 on with the fuzz distortion is really cool.
Enjoy the vacation with the family!

Yeah, you slipped in and heard that turd pile before I deleted.  Sorry about that smile I owe you 4 aspirins and a shot of Makers. The only reason I salvaged this is for the guitar tone in the intro. I like that part.

Ahh... the devil's fafisa. They signal a shift in the mood towards more demanding and menacing, less sweet.

Thanks, the intention was the song starts out sappy sweet and then shifts into something a bit more sinister.  Same lyrics, but a feeling of demanding affection.

All my faves... thanks!

I earned those synth pads. Built up on layers of semi-modular monophonic synths.  Doing it the hard way smile In regards to the mix, I think I'm partially deaf in one ear from playing out live... probably accounts for lots of "unique" production techniques!

You are correct, the more effects I had removed, the better.  I ran out of time for completely solving the vocal issues but will keep that in mind next time.

Thanks! It's like a little hit of nostalgia smile

Thanks for checking it out! Fun to use all my stomp boxes.

2:43: distorted badassery -- synth, right? or just crushed into a sound sausage guitar?

It sucks being late w/ comments, but hearing a whole lot of your work in a row is pretty damn nice.

Ha ha... I like the sound sausage guitar. This track is all real guitars and some synths until you get to the last third and the distorted "sound sausage" takes lead.  The main sounds on this track are several layers of Reverend electric guitar though analog pedals and Gibson Ripper bass guitar.  Thanks for checking it out!
