Days and Days

By NWSPR on April 17, 2022 11:58 pm

This week's track was recorded in less that two hours using a theme set up in the outro of last week's submission. I'm shooting for an over the top New Wave sound once again with dramatic synths and vocals.

I wish wish wish the mix was better (sorry). Unfortunately, I didn't have time this week to put in the work so I'll come back to this theme again with a better mix and arrangement because I do have something in mind that is not well represented in this draft.  So apologies for the crappy mix and terrible vocals (the vocals were recorded 15 minutes before deadline).  I can do better!

Anyway enough excuses... Happy Passover and Easter! My family celebrates both so I was making matzoh balls on and Easter Eggs this weekend.

On a totally different topic, you may have heard about the mass subway shooting Brooklyn that happened last Tuesday.  Luckily there were no fatalities. Coincidentally, the station where the shooting occurred is outside my office in Industry City (Sunset Park) so I was passing by on my bike at 8:45 when all hell broke loose.  I didn't know what was going on with all the helicopters, anti-terror squads and fire trucks, but when I got to My  office on 36th street, the building went on lockdown for the remainder of the day.  It was such a big deal around here I thought I would share but it may not be as well known in other parts.  Nobody I know was hurt and it looks like all 10 shooting victims will recover.

Crazy times... hope you are all well and have a peaceful holiday(s).

Definitely gives me a "Personal Jesus" vibe! All these mass shootings in this last decade have been terrifying, I'm glad you were safe! It's also good that no one died, oof. I really hope that someday that crazy shit just stops happening.

It's a good sequel, despite the very obvious rough mix
don't mind the vocals that much tho, feels like a good fit for you

Oh yea, I'm getting that too

Yeah, I like to hear you on the mic. There is a big new wave influence instumental wise. It has also a Joy Division vocal quality the way you are singing. Very good work.

With the way a lot of these tracks are building from the outro of previous tracks, I'm looking forward to hearing the album where they all flow together as one seamless track.  smile

The vocals sounded pretty good to me.

I didn't hear about that particular mass shooting, but they've sadly become so common it's hard to stay on top of all of them.  That's great news that there were no fatalities.

Despite the mix being off, I really like what I hear here.

I really like that track a lot. The deep bass, and the synth stabs contribute well to the setting of the atmosphere. It has the feel of a classic new wave track, with a slightly nostalgic/autumn feel to it.

I had heard of the brooklyn shooting even from the other side of the planet. That must have been crazy stuff, it's great there was no fatalities! It still must be traumatic, having that kind of random violence imposed into your usual daily environment.

Oh wow! that's really intense- I had no idea about the shooting, glad no one was hurt. That reminds me of the time there was a murder in the elevator in the building I used to work at, it was pretty freaky! And I had just used that elevator hours before it happened.

Nice track! I'm a fan of last minute vocals, I think it sounds fine!

Def got those Depeche Mode vibes.  That beat is super catchy.  Had me tapping along.  I heard about the shooting.  Glad to hear there were no fatalities.  That must have been surreal.

SO GLAD YOU & FAMILY ARE SAFE!  That lock-down had to feel scary.  I am sure the folks in your community are shook - sending healing vibes to Brooklyn & especially to the folks who were attacked.  I was locked down in a greyhound station outside of Columbine on an adventure I took myself on out west April 20,1999.  It was the middle of the day & our bus was delayed - then over the loud speaker they told us was there is an active shooter in the area - the city is locked down no buses leaving the station... The rest is a blur.  It wasn't till I made it to California & saw the news days later on TV that I found out what happened.

I really like this piece - I like the way the vocals are mixed - it feels like a mood.

I hope that you were able to enjoy your Passover/Easter celebration!

It's your own "Personal NWSPR" - It's all in the beat.  Certainly not in my mix or vox smile I do had a thing for Depeche Mode definitely.  Apparently they have a metal following as well that I read about recently.  Very cool.  Thanks for listening!

Everything sounds so much better in my head.  Just need Logic Pro XX 2045 edition with cerebral mix plugin. By WB 2046 this will all be worked out.

Thanks! You definitely know my influences!

Thanks for noticing my 2022 pattern.  Not 100% but trying to create continuity in the music.

With all the mass shootings around the country and the increase in NYC subway shootings, I'm not surprised you missed it.  There have already been 3 or 4 more mass shootings at various malls, parties, and apartment complexes around the country.  We even had two people shot on a subway train a few days later that didn't get any news coverage.

We got some problems to work out smile

It's hard for me to listen to.  I don't know what I did to make the vocal levels go up and down and muddy up the mix.  Just rushing I guess.  Thanks for hearing beyond that!

Thanks! I was going for a gloomy, dramatic, new romantic / new wave sound.  Maybe I can clean it up a bit more for future release.

Yes, the transit system has some severe issues coming out of the pandemic.  I'm lucky that I'm able to ride my bicycle 99% of the time.

That's really scary about a murder in the elevator of your office building!  Even more direct and personal. Crazy world we live in. Sometimes we get reminders.

Thanks for the kind words! My vox are cringy and the mix is up and down.  I had a few minutes before deadline and am kind of proud for not chickening out.  I pushed the button and made the deadline!!

Thanks! Yes, definitely a DM influence in the beat.  My track this week has a heavy Tone Matrix direct influence until I went my own cheesy direction halfway through.  Check it out... I did a piano piece directly because I really enjoy your work.

Thank you! healing vibes received!  That's crazy that you were in lockdown at the Columbine greyhound station.  What are the odds?

I did have an amazing and exhausting holiday and I had the gluten free matzoh balls and died blue fingers to prove it!  Hope you enjoyed your holiday.

Nailed this sound. I get the DM, like that. Love the vox. Mix doesn't bother me, I hear the roughness, but hey that's some of the character, and a v1 right? DB metal following? that's cool, makes sense I suppose. So crazy about the shooting, glad everyone will make it. and so close to you, wow. We do have some work to do!

I actually love your "terrible vocals", especially how you processed it. On some parts of the song they feel too far away, but this is what it is. With some time mixing it, I feel it is a great song.

Love this, I really like synth pop a lot and this is exceptional -- wish the vocals were louder, but am absolutely smitten w/ the distortion on the bass -- absolutely massive sound. The drum sound is ridiculous also. (May I take a stab mixing this if you have stems? Will not sample, will not steal, will not share.)
