Text to Speech

By NWSPR on April 24, 2016 11:59 pm

This track is composed on software I wrote this week after reading a recent interview with Brian Eno where he described his use of text to speech software. I quickly wrote my software to randomly select from libraries of the most common nouns, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, etc. and construct phrases.  The controls allow me to change speech characteristics, manipulate music samples and create primitive sequences.

Not a great sounding piece but I was pretty psyched about the ideas in the software and the possibility of refining this into a live performance tool.

The video shows how this track was generated... it's rough, handheld from my phone. Unfortunately I was holding the phone and playing the sliders on the software to manipulate text and samples but it's cropped out.  Need a tripod!

Intriguing result... Is that built on MaxMSP?

Missing some hig frequencies on the track, otherwise those Moroder-esque loops were fantastic.

yeah. cool concept.. sounds like a recording of a recording of a recording though hhehe

Nice track! smile

Woaaahh.   Great concept man!

Thanks! Yes, probably the worst quality recording I've ever done.  I'm holding my iPhone with one hand and playing the software with the other. I uploaded to WB with 20 seconds to spare smile I spent all my time obsessing over the scripting and none on production. At least you can't hear my dog barking in the background.

Thanks! I built this in LiveCode. Just for fun, I used a Mac Classic interface (toolbox) which gives it a retro look.

Great idea, hope we hear more smile
