Only the Dead (Electronic)

By NWSPR on May 31, 2020 11:23 pm

This week is an electronic reprisal of last week's track made with all the scraps that were not used in the uptempo guitar version.  This version is closer to where I started, using an 808 kit and all synths.  I have retained the orchestral section and shifted the chorus and harmonica over it to try something different.

Sorry not more creative but I am up in the Catskills to get away from Brooklyn and all the stuff that comes with it.  I don't have my gear.  Just my laptop.  Instead of playing music today, I tore apart a washing machine and fixed the pump.  It's on a test cycle now and anxious to see if it worked or if the basement is filling with water!

Hope everyone is well.  It's been a real shit week in the USA. A real shit week.

You managed to get this homely piece out of it, so it wasn't a complete waste.

You pieced together a nice, calm version of the song.

I just totally accidentally hit submit comment without writing anything.  Sorry about the blank comment.  I've never done that before.  I didn't even know it was possible to do.  Anyway, it's interesting to hear this version of the track.  It's a little more bare-bones sounding, but it still manages to convey that upbeat energy.  Hope everything works out with the washing machine and with America.  This whole year has been positively horrific.

Nice man, the remix came out great.  I love the synth with the bend thats going on throughout.  Glad to hear you've got somewhere to get away too though man, shits going down in the cities.  Been listening to the police scanner for my neighborhood in Chicago all day.  Absolute chaos.

Great remix track. Didn't hear the original but I likes this one. Good luck with the washing machine and everything!!! Stay safe, be well

Hey, it's okay.  It happens to everyone. We're all a little on edge and next thing you know you popped the submit button.

I totally crushed that Maytag.  It's running like a scolded dog now.  I pulled a metal fragment out of the pump so it does not bode well for the future.  If metal is breaking off of the inner drum (or tub?) then more is sure to break off.  For now, it's fine. I'm back in Brooklyn, so maybe I'll pick up a new one tonight after curfew smile Sorry to make light of our absolute decline into chaos. Hope you're well!

Hanging in there.  And the levity is honestly appreciated.  If we don't make light of things once in awhile (maybe even especially the bad things) then I really think the forces of chaos and evil will win.

I have a friend staying in the catskills right now too! They just had a new born and wanted nothing to do with walking into a NY hospital. Wild world were living in. Ps. thank you for keeping this song in my head for ANOTHER WEEK. Haha. Solid rendition.

love the snare-clap

great beat drop out intro - this would be a great end credits song

HARMONICAAAAAAAAAAAA YASSSSS

Nice chords! The 808 sounds really cool with the harmonica at the end, that combo has a lot of potential. Stay safe over there heart

Glad you got to escape Brooklyn and all the madness that is going on.  It really was a shit week indeed.  This is a cool electronic version of OtD.  Gotta love that signature harmonica.  I hope the washer machine test was a success!

Your track sounds somehow hopeful... like a zoom out in the end of a old Hollywood movie. I hope it is safe there for you and your loved ones, seems quite serious in the news.

nice harmonica!

Thanks I think smile Wish I spent more time on it. Too many rough spots, but maybe I'll fix it up later this year.

Thanks! It was fun experimenting with the arrangement and changing the mood.

Hope you are safe. How's Chicago been this week?  In New York the daily protests are bigger each day but they are more peaceful and the looting has mostly stopped.  I headed back and spent the week in Brooklyn. It actually felt weird to be away while the city was in pain.

Yeah, don't blame them.  Not a great time to have a baby in the city.  What part of the Catskills?  We have a house in Eldred.  I actually went home to Brooklyn on Tuesday for the week. Lots of sirens and fireworks going off.  And helicopters. But I live in a quiet section that typically does not see much action so we were very safe.

Yeah, right? That snare clap has so much snap I love it but not really sure what I did different smile My poor little C Maj harmonica is sooo beat.  Need to get some different keys and learn to play. My older brother was a blues harp master and used to have a shoe box full of em. It's on my list of things to get to.

Thanks! Yeah, we are in a relatively safe neighborhood because we don't have any major squares or building nearby so all the riots and protests always skip us luckily. Hope you're doing well!

Only temporarily.  We headed home on Tuesday but things have settled into peaceful protests now. So far, two loads of laundry later, the old washer is holding up.  Now I need to fix a thermostat on the Subaru.  Always something.  Not sure I'm up to it though.  Will need to watch some YouTube videos smile

Thanks!  I like the imagery of the zooming out in an old film. We are well, Thanks! Like everyone else, just waiting to see what's coming next for 2020.

Thanks! Funny how a cheap little piece of metal can have such a rich sound.
