My American Carnage

By NWSPR on May 29, 2022 11:57 pm

This is how I feel in the good ol' U.S. of A. after this week. If I had time for doing vocals or writing lyrics it would probably be a primal scream of FUCKKKKKKK! So just imagine that.  A couple days after [insert latest mass shooting] I picked up my bass and recorded raw unattached parts followed by four tracks of guitar.  Kind of just therapy.  This weekend, I arranged it into a more cohesive song form and added the synths.  After weeks of doing songs between 90 and 110 bpm, I went up to 240 bpm (or 120 double-time).  For me 240 is a comfort zone. A musical fetal position from earlier days and it felt good.

America certainly is exceptional, I think we all will agree. There can be no dispute we lead the world in mass shootings.

My wife and I are talking about leaving in a few years.  Maybe we will. Sorry for being crappy.  I'm actually enjoying working on music and all is good for us (me and my family). I'm gonna go grill some beyond burgers after I post this.  It's Memorial Day Weekend here in the USA.  All my thoughts will go to the kids of mass shootings dead and alive.  And then I will withhold all future requests for thoughts and prayers until our government takes action.

I hope you are all well and don't want to end on a down note.  I've been busy but catching up on tracks.  You are all amazing and continue to inspire!  See you in the comments.

Bad week, but a great track.  My SO loved it ("this is a wonderful song!").  Among other things, they said it reminded them of a "Rock against Bush" punk compilation from a while back―and that was before I read them the description.

It is crazy, there are so many of those, this is so easy to have access to tools to kill (speaking of firearms here) (maybe not as easy here in Canada, but still there are more and more death by guns here too).

Very scary stuff, and when I read that on some schools the solution is that teachers carries guns to their classes, I see so much wrong into that.

People are not right, don't feel right.

If you want to come here up north, we still have lots of place, but I have heard that burocraty to get your citizenship is pretty heavy...

Anyways, there is something to say about our roots, and USA is so much more than that. I just hope people (and elite-governments) will find the will to find solutions about all that crap...

I share the energy/emotions in this song with you, because I struggle with the politics in Europa, too. I am tired of restrictions and war propaganda. the people do not interact peacefully anymore. it`s getting hectic, it`s getting wild....

I feel like I don't recognize this country anymore, or maybe it was always this off the rails but it didn't seem so out in the open.  At the very least it isn't what I was told it was when I was growing up.  There seems to be a lot of effort to keep people uneducated, angry, and armed to the teeth which just seems to be a recipe for disaster.  But anyway, the track rocked.  I could really feel the passion in it.  Here's hoping for a better week.

This is a tragedy. This track is epic, capturing raw energy, anger, a sense of rebellion and not accepting things as they are. Tribalism, lack of compassion, lack of education, lack of hope, are all a deadly recipe unfortunately and it is hard to see a way out.

Wow, what a badass track this is.  Super big fan of the bridge at 1:04, love the high guitar part.  I hear you on the state of nation too, so much bullshit we have to deal with.  Also, if you're vegetarian (or enjoy vegetarian food) and live in Brooklyn...Are you familiar with Champs Diner?  What the fuck?  We were out there a few months ago and that might have been the best goddamn brunch I've ever had.  I think about it often.

Catharsis through sonic mayhem is certainly relatable. I'm seeing a lot of folks in my circles talking about leaving, and my wife and I discussed this seriously for the first time ever this year. I wasn't born here, it was non-trivial to get here, and non-trivial to assimilate, etc. But yeah, we're literally in a land where murder of kids is met with an unironic "Don't care about shootings, I care about the second amendment" attitude. And it doesn't take long for that to emphasize that it's just a darker shade of the ever familiar "don't care about reproductive rights, care about my Christian values," or "don't care about kids in cages, care about 'no fucking immigrants' (but no offense, man, you're one of the good ones)" or "don't care about own health, global warming is a hoax."

What an absolute shit decade this is.

(Track rocks, but how fucked up that this music now lowers the blood pressure rather than raise it?..)

I don't like what happened, but man, this song goes really hard. Hope you feel better.

Ha ha! I'm still rocking against Bush. I think the American Hardcore scene came 40 years too early.  If there was ever a time for youth protest, it's now. Thanks for listening!

My daughter is actually already in Toronto visiting a friend. Maybe she can find us a spot and we'll sneak across the border smile

A global sickness. Sad but not unstoppable.  In the U.S. it's all about the gun lobby and money.

Thanks! Unfortunately not too much better of a week with 13 mass shootings over the weekend.  Might be a record, but hey, Top Gun 2 set a record and that got the headlines.

Yeah, i don't know.  I've given up on changing anyones mind in this country.  Just want to recede away from it.  Same old story... just follow the power and money.  Thanks for listening and commenting.

Thanks! I used a mix of real and fake guitar with synth pads blended in.  Kind of like sonic hamburger helper smile I am a vegetarian and have not been to Champs... looks amazing! Thanks for the tip. I rarely make it over to Bushwick / East Williamsburg area because it is such a schlep from where I'm at in Windsor Terrace (I know, I'm lame), but this looks like it would be worth the trip. Did you make it to Roberta's in Bushwick? Great for pizza and brunch as well but crowded.

Thanks for the wise words and comments. Could not have phrased the current circumstances any better.

Thanks Spider - I'll probably be fine. We just got to keep our heads down at the summer BBQs and watch out for the bad guys just like in a John Wayne western. Thanks for listening to my track and whining smile

Thanks for making me laugh Emily! Your music and social commentary is an inspiration.

Damn definitely feeling that energy from that week throughout the track.  The guitars sound awesome especially the bass being right in yo face.   Rock on!

No, we didn't but it looks great so I'll add it to the list for next time.  Thanks!  We were only there for a few days so we just scratched the surface of the food scene, but absolutely loved everywhere we went.  P.S. Kitchen and Willow in Manhattan were also life changing.

Hell yes. I echo the anger and frustration, this jam makes me get up and yell fuuuck for sure, something I did a few times that weekend. Fuck it indeed. I've thought about leaving this country often.
