Less Than Nothing (GreaterThan Sum)

By NWSPR on April 3, 2022 11:59 pm

I spent about three hours on this and succeeded by totally missing the mark.  Uploaded with 10 seconds to spare!  If I had planned better, I'd work on the dynamics and add vocals but it's a minor miracle that this made it up.

Here's my sad story. I was sick all week with a cold I caught from my son, which in my experience are the worst kind of colds filled with vile children germs our adult bodies cannot defend against.  It cleared up on Saturday so I rode my bicycle to my office for 2 hours and laid down guitar, bass and underlying Moogs. All my gear is at my office (don't ask).  Just in time for me to pedal back home and go out for a friend's Bday and see Actors and Bootblacks play at Saint Vitus Bar.  Got super drunk (Manhattans in Brooklyn soon turned to straight whiskey) and woke up with my ears ringing so badly that the thought of working on music was upsetting. But before I could do that, I had to drive down to Pennsylvania with my wife to visit my father in law and tech support his iPad.  Got back... no street parking because you never leave your parking spot and return after 5:00 on a Sunday (in Brooklyn) or you're fucked for the week. Finally found a spot and had 45 minutes to add BBC strings to the guitars.

I'm not complaining.  I would rather be hung over and spend 4 hours driving through NJ and Staten Island than have that cold.

It's week 13 and we made it passed the first quarter! Hope everyone that reads this is healthy and doing well!

This track fits perfectly with your story especially the pedaling away on your bicycle.  The organ sounds awesome in the mix too.  Nice work considering what a busy week you had.  I hope you're both feeling mucho better.  Yay first quarter!

The music itself seems to have a bit of a frantic quality like it's hurrying to make the deadline.  Maybe I'm just reading into it after the story of your week.  Feel better!

This song is very much on the hurry. Wish you have a quieter week in the next round.

I KNEW IT WAS YOU IN LESS THAN ONE SECOND!

you have this surf/punk/cyber/new wave energy that I can spot a mile away!  It's so uniquely you.  I love it.

Brooklyn parking is so famously bad that zirafa incorporated that theme in a title of his!

great story, hope you feel better!!  congrats on 1/4th!

I instantly liked this one. The tone and atmosphere is so good. I don’t think you missed the mark at all! Those are  some sweet guitar hooks right in the middle. Also liked the organs at the end

It seems you had quite a bad week. Very impressive you got that track out considering all the conditions! I always enjoy some good phased guitar and cool fuzzy riffs that bite. I especially enjoy the section from 1:57 onwards.

You pulled through and the results are solid

Perfect title. Congrats on making it up! This was a fun listen. BBC strings for the tasty finish. Your guitar is always good. Wow. what a week, nice story. Children colds are the worse. My son just back from an 8th grader school trip to DC and NYC, 80 8th graders from out here in WA state.  I'm waiting for those funky east coast youth germs to take hold of my house.

Sweet track, it has a fluidity to it that I really like.

I really liked this track when I heard it, but I guess I have to admit that Chrome Scorpions version is better. But this was still badass.

Thanks! Yes, the cold is long gone.  Feeling 100%. The busy weeks keep coming, but hey, I can't complain while @Q-Rosh is working 7 days a week in an ambulance and still putting out some cool tracks! Everybody on WB has a crazy schedule.  I think the only people who will do a track a week for a year are used to over doing it a bit smile

I was!  I thought about saying F-It but glad I made it another week.  Feeling better.

I got nothing to complain about (see comments made to Tone Matrix).  I hesitate to complain when compared to your schedule and awesomely inventive tracks.

I only have so many tricks up my sleeve and have been happily recycling them since WB 2012. I'm like the hamburger helper of the surf/punk/new wave genre. On a side note, I'm thinking Weekly Beats name that musician game show spin off website.

Thanks!  I used that riff as the starting point for this week's track.  I felt like there some unused potential there.

Good enough for Government Work to quote CosmicCairns track this week.

Yeah, hate the kid colds.  Sounds like your son had a cool field trip and may have possibly brough back some ebola.  What part of NY?  Assuming the city?

It did have a not too bad flow.  Thanks!

Ha ha... the Chrome Scorpions version is where I worked out all the kinks smile I had some really sloppy overtones mix that I was able to work through.  Thanks!

i need to go lie down and take a nap after that story!

i'm in awe that this track got made & sounds great!
