Death on the Nile

By NWSPR on February 20, 2022 11:58 pm

Saw the new Death on the Nile movie yesterday and it stuck in my head so here is my funky trip down the river.  The mastering is a blown out mess!  Sorry, I ran out of time and should have spent today working on the mix to thin things out. The analog synths and vocoder take up a wide frequency range and need attention.

I definitely learned from the mistakes on this one and will try and pay more attention to the mix. Otherwise, it was a lot more fun to play than it probably is to listen to.  It's a raw synth and guitar/bass track with classic Moog sounds from the Grandmother and Model D with some Pro-1.

The start of the track was sequenced on the Arturia Beatstep Pro out of pure spite.  I sold the beatstep to somebody online a few years ago and he returned it because he said it didn't record sequences.  I gave him the $40 back but the guy was probably not saving properly.  I never got around to fully testing it but yeah, it works fine.

Need to catch up on comments this week.  Hope everyone has a good week and are doing well.

This really brings the funk.  That bassline is righteous.  The robot voice sounds are cool, too.  I can definitely appreciate the spite sequencing.  It makes it all that much sweeter.

It's safe to say Agatha Christie didn't anticipate any of her works to inspire a bop that slaps this hard, but after hearing this I can't imagine she'd be disappointed.

Funky as hell. Love the rhythmic interplay between the bass and the synth. The ascending bit 1:30 is super fun too.

Wow I love this. It's so funky and so fun.

Oh yeah, funk is always welcome. The bass sound is just perfect there. That's a live recording of bass, right? The moog lines are really awesome, with a little sense of irony. I love how it opens are 0:50. The rise up from 1:29 is really cool, pushing the track further and further before going back to the fun part. I really enjoyed this one!

A bit messy yes, but we can feel the fun! (Don't worry, I do the same and it is weekly beats after all)

Take a KAYAK!

Damn those are some block rockin' geetars!  Excellent synth funk goodness with all the chord changes towards the end too.  Yais i like!

This funk-rocks to the bones. Lot of energy is coming over to me. Have a good week.

Let's call the mix "fun-time" and leave it at that. Yea it's messy, but it's still pretty fun.

love the moog sounds so fun!

I saw it this week!  Loved it!

Trademark that!

Yesss, this is great.  Love the funky bass and vocoder. The chromatic walk up riff/bridge thing at 1:30 is awesome, such a cool part.

Oh yes, I'm on this boat, funky like it should be. Love the vocoder, chords are happy fun. I saw that movie. I'm picture scenes of them on the boat with this playing, and I"m smiling. Kind of a whole new film in my head now. Sequencing out of spite on the Hatestep is brilliant.

So now I finally understand where the Hatestep Pro comes from. It's a really good joke, but holy shit the funk of this! heart
