Dancing With Machines

By NWSPR on April 5, 2020 11:12 pm

Falling back to an electronic disco sound this week to keep things light and upbeat. Truth is my interface shit the bed so no external instruments, just virtual synths.  I did more dancing around with machines trying to coax them to do my bidding, than actually playing music.  Gear giving me trouble so I had several false starts and finaly landed here.  I'm sure my gear will be back up and running next week.

I got to checkout Orangedrink's live stream on Friday. Awesome show Drew! Looking forward to the next one.  And TweakLab was on the chat.  Hope to see a TweakLab live stream someday soon.  Anyway, great way to spend a Friday evening.

Hope you are all well, safe, and virus free.  See you in the comments.

Aw, that sucks about the technical difficulties, those are the worst, but it seems like you've managed to spin out some gold nonetheless.  Nice upbeat vibe and it's fun to bob my head along as I listen at my desk.

Damn, that sucks about your interface.  Sorry to hear!  This is awesome though with all software instruments man, I love this.  Dude that super high, left panned synth lead about 3/4 of the way in is amazing.  Such a cool tone on that thing.

I would definitely dance with those machines. Nice disco feeling.

Shit the bed haha... Thems machines are a dancing and i'm not even mad! smile Super cool track... be well!

It's annoying when machines shit the bed ... really kills the mood, and the smell, geez. Well good job making some fun electro disco anyway, good mix and full sound. This was a good mood booster while working form home in the basement. May have to listen again now!

aw dang I meant to click the textbox, not the submit button. That should be disabled without content or something.

Anyway, I love VST Only jams! I'm sorry to hear about your interface, but as someone with a bunch of hardware gear too, I find VSTs are at least hella helpful for getting things accomplished quicker! Such positive disco sounds!

Ha! I did the same thing earlier today! Yep, VSTs are definitely a lifesaver.  The hamburger helper of music production.  Thanks for the kind words!

I'm really enjoying the Korg-esque quality of the background loop, you know the special patches they have on things like the Wavestation (my descriptions are terrible!). Anyhow, excellent upbeat disco energy radiates from this track, even deprived of your go-to/preferred way, you still dazzle with incredible and vibrant synths heart Hope you had a good week!

Next week (or the one after that) you can add the live bits to this one after you fixed your stuff.

This is cool, I love how it kinda flips into a more upbeat vibe halfway through. Hope you get those tech issues cleared up!

This has some early Depeche Mode flavour for me and that is a very good thing. Also some Blade Runner mood in the melodies. All great thing in my book. That major key interlude in the middle (and the reprise in the end) is also extremely fitting and just the right thing to keep it interesting. Great stuff, again... and any technical problems in the process are perfectly masked here smile

Super cool track. Reminds me of a faster, happier NIN. 10/10 for the transition at 1:44, loved it. Hope your interface unshits itself

I got it all worked out and for now my set up is working.  Needed to clear out some hard drive space, reinstall software and then I was back in business.  Hate it when you want to play music and end up trouble shooting for several hours!

Thanks! I got the technical issues resolved.  I got that super high sound by taking an instrument thats meant for a lower register and pushing it up three octaves. I like the trashyness you get when you use stuff the wrong way smile

Thanks! Seems like sometimes all I'm doing is dancing with machines day and night!

Thanks! Yes, a colorful expression that describes the situation perfectly.  Luckily, this week has been smooth sailing and not shit in the bed!

Thanks! Glad I could lighten the mood.  Sometimes gear just sucks and I wish I could just play an acoustic instrument in a quiet room. So, you're working in the basement.  I think 90% of the people I know are all working in the basement.  We're all hunkered down. Hopefully not too much longer!

Technical issues resolved, so I'm back in business!  I do like VSTs as well.  The best part is how well they are mastered, so that's a big timesaver.

Thanks Gab! Yeah, that IS a Korg VST loop! Gear is back up and running, so a very good week!

Definitely! This week I got to do the kind of track I wanted to do last week.  My laptop and interface were just being finicky but after a reset and clearing memory, I am able to records sufficiently.

Thanks! All cleared up.  Yep, at that mid point the track goes from minor scale to a major scale which makes it open up and sound brighter, even though it's mostly the same patterns playing.  Music is a funny thing that way. One small change makes a bid difference.

Totally! I never thought about Depeche Mode, but listening again after your comment, I definitely hear it.  That shift to major ket is always a nifty trick I sometimes forget to use.  Thanks for checking it out!

Interface officially unshited.  Bed cleaned.  Back in business... Thanks!

Ooooooh!! good stuff big_smile Korg 4 life!

That intro and the synth chords instantly brought Jean Michel Jarre to my mind. Epic ambiance that would totally fit with a holo-harp synth performance in a stadium.
