The Lesser Light

Eh .... way too long for most people probably. You are an exceedingly good sport if you listened to the whole thing. wink

I had this idea in my head for a long time about writing a piece about Earth’s Moon and how, while a peaceful or romantic presence for us all, I don’t think, based on it’s many scars, has always been so peaceful. Some even theorize that the Moon was itself born as a blob of the Earth knocked off by collision with another body. It took a long piece to work in all the thought-pictures that had been percolating in my head.

Back to the 1-2 minute stuff next week ‘cause my head is empty now. roll

took your comment as a challenge and listened to the whole thing! really nice prog rock-y goodness, although I think my favorite part is that flamenco-style part near the end! definitely evokes those themes of formation/creation you're ruminating on in your description though. maybe pulling in some samples or more textural sounds might be good for that middle section where the guitar & synth really dominate and carry the track, just to fill things out or provide an aural counterbalance. really enjoyable piece all-in-all though, was glad to spend some time with it.

Heh, I should hand out prizes for the die-hards. wink

Thanks for the kind words and the suggestions. What I really need to do is cut it down to a more manageable size, then as you say, enhance with some ambient sound effects, etc. but realistically, prolly never get to it now. Couple of clunkers in that last solo, and the guitar tone leaves a lot to be desired, but I figured I would lose the inspiration if I tried it again. Yay for weekly beats. No time to look in the mirror!

Beautiful work.  Sustainer guitar/Ebow or keys?  (Really lovely overlap between guitar and brassy synth.)

Also digging the rockier part in the middle--nice Hammond-supported prog!  Sweet guitar solo, too! (Yes, I listened to the whole thing.)

I really enjoyed this track. Only suggestion from a production perspective, is that it's a little bit toppy. Could do with a roll off of high frequencies, but the music itself was pretty darn good. Well done.

I listened to it in its entirety, and I will be doing that a few more times I'm sure. It's a really nice mellow guitar piece, though honestly the fade out at the end is a bit of a cop-out.

Wow, thanks so much. No ebow just lotsa FX on the sustain-y bits. Yeh, I usually hate my solos, but that one I do like. Thanks for listening.

Thanks, yeh, I wasn’t all that happy with the final mix either. Ran outta time.

Thanks for that suggestion. I always feel that way too with fade outs too, but in this case it was intentional. I was picturing the moon going down or sunrise approaching. But yeh there has to be better ways to end a song.

Thanks for listening. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
