Chip Chop

This one uses a technique I got going on the m8 called chopping, inspired by the way DJs (specifically Screw) would cut up doubles of the same record.
I figured out a pretty reliable and repeatable way to do it on the m8, so just as an example, here is last week's song remixed through this auto-chopper.
It does take a little finesse to get it right, its not totally automatic, but it gets the bulk of the rote stuff done while still leaving room for spontaneity and remixing.

And one last notable update from my week... I installed some software somebody sent me for work and it wiped my entire documents folder (including every weekly beats related project for the year) - so I got that going for me.
Back your stuff up.

I have absolutely no clue about the technique you describe, but love the bass supporting the initial sine melody. It really kicks off super nicely.

Sorry to hear about data loss. I have a very scatterbrained backup solution myself, so I am very vulnerable to a similar situation sad Maybe I should go over my stuff this week.

First off: Those bass hits are intense cool

This sounds awesome, but I don't know what this is.  Did the DJs use two copies of the same disc and cue different points in the same track?

In any case, I'm interested to learn more about this technique and the M8 auto-chopper.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO that was in the data that got wiped during your rsync disaster?  I really hope those projects were still on your SD card sad

If it helps: I still have the song bundles for El Soul and Your Island.

Yea - one is basically running ahead a beat and you cut between them. Of course you can also throw in brakes and loops for variation.

Yea I have the mp3 of course via the WB site and the m8 actually really did bail me out a little here... some of the stuff I had worked hardest on, I had just copied over to the m8 before this happened.
Every day though I'm finding something new that I realize is gone ... none of the file recovery software is really helping. Only one thing I'm really bummed about (a friends personal project) - the rest is just irritating.

oh this was a sad story & a good reminder - catchy chip chops!

Really liking the repeats (and that slowdown-everything midway through the third minute). I'll holla about the technique, I really like both the original (considered that also for the remix), but the chopped'n'screwed version delights.
