Avec Mere - New York

By noggin on December 11, 2022 2:39 pm

I had another track done on MONDAY - really been feeling the urge to knock these out early this late in the game. Then I heard from an old friend of mine Jordan, and I just had to let that dude know I was thinking about him.

So here we have a resurrection of a song we collaborated on almost 20 years ago. I can't remember the actual genesis of everything, but I think he sent me a bunch of demos, and this one inspired me to lay down a piano track using my family piano at the house I grew up in. It's about as honest as it gets - I used the first mic I could find (1/8" computer deal), played in one room while my dad watched tv in the other, and my mom goofed around on the internet (fun mom fact: whenever she was done browsing the internet, she would back her browser up, back...back...back... to the first page she started on before she actually quit).

Anyway this song became a favorite, and always served as like a beacon of our friendship... you can't do these kinds of things without connections you can't explain.
I took the old mp3 bounce, spruced it up a little for 2022, edited on the m8, added some backing rhythm and RAN'd chip melodies.

Thank you Jordan.

ps. I joined WB two weeks late, and that's always bugged the completionist in me. So to make up for it, let's take the original song I was going to post (proof below), send it straight to the aether, and call that week 1.
I'll make up the 2nd week I missed before this whole thing blows over.

Feels real, feels true, like a heart ever-expanding heart

Nice tune! The mood really goes well with what's happening outside my windows now. Love the piano. I have rewound it for the next person to listen to it from the beginning again.

Man, that write up and the tune. Been listening for a while, hits different. Love you, man.

Phew, uh, like, post a link to "For Real," you nerd. heart

a poignant beautiful track. I like it 100% and the backgroundstory, too . it has an elliott smith quality of pure honest music. thank you for sharing.

Awesome - if I can get just one rewind then I feel like I did it right.

Ha! I can send to you if you want but I might just put it in my backpocket. I basically made the whole thing live in #jam-chat with @glooms there for support.

Thanks! I hadn't considered that similarity (not very well versed in his output), but that is probably what is familiar to me too! All power to Jordan on evoking that.

Chicken soup for the soul on another dreary drizzly day.  You hit us all right in the heart with this one and remind us that what we want to selfishly do doesn't matter- only what we know deep down we are supposed do for others.

Thanks for saying that - did not consciously intend to inspire that interpretation, and it is really nice to see it reflected back like that.

Beautiful, echoes from the past blending with your present music making. Thanks for keeping it up smile

This is a very pleasant song, I hope you stay friends for a long time.

That's a great story to go with this weeks tune, glad you could resurrect this song, piano and recording has a great sound, seems like lots of laid back tunes this week, must be the weather change.

Thank you for checking it. I love it when WB achieves some sort of synergetic similarity naturally like that

Great nostalgic feel. Em-C-G... made me expect -D, but keeping on the G makes it feel more somber.
