This one is filled with some fatherly advice from this old man. (As in me, I'm the old man who wants to give people advice.) I see so many issues fester within people because they either have difficulty communicating their emotions or for whatever reason are choosing not to share. As someone who would drop over dead if I didn't write and perform songs (or maybe murder many people if I happened to explode outward instead of inward) I am constantly trying to push others to also share of themselves so that they can have an improved experience being alive. The arts are essential. Expression is essential. Communication is essential.

I was playing a show with Megan Claire a couple weeks ago and she was using all these different tunings for her songs and we talked about that a little and it wasn't something I've messed with before and so I thought, what the hell, for Weekly Beats it's a good time to try new things. So this week I tried tuning my guitar to Open E cause it was the first one that came up on google. So this is in open E tuning. I have no idea what is what. I just kind of messed around with shapes until I heard something usable. My initial plan was to add a bunch of instruments despite not really knowing how to play anything, but that was quickly derailed by the new tuning as I just couldn't get anything to blend in with it. So instead I just added a whole lot of vocals.

Open your heart
It will lead you astray
You’ll learn how to cry
And life’s better that way
Cause if you hide your tears
And hold them too tight
They’ll only grow heavy
And keep you from flight
I’ve seen the wings under your skin
And your heart is made for greater things
So love who you are
And kiss who you want
Treat them with kindness
Save more for your self
Sing your own songs
Sing them out proud
The things that you feel
You must say them out loud
Or dark thoughts will dim the light within
Your heart’s made for greater things

I see the wings under your skin
Your heart’s made for greater things

Aww. Heartmelt. Love this so very much.

Hope you can make it to the meetup tomorrow.

Tender and sweet. A cup of tea by the fireplace.

Sound advice.
When in doubt, you can always add drums, they'll likely always fit.

Sound advice indeed! Couldn't agree with this sentiment more and thanks for sharing this. I could use a reminder like this in the form of a lovely song like this any day! Open E tuning sounds awesome. Cheers to this, and to not exploding because of music!

True true! Although I have no rhythm which makes it difficult. But if I'm ever gonna try something WB is likely the best place to start to learn!

Thank you for listening! Every day absent of implosions or explosions is a victory!

I recommend bongos or bongo adjacent, you can play along while listening back, you'll find you have more rhythm than you think
