Whales (2005)

By Nickmaynard on January 14, 2018 8:25 pm

My new year's resolution for 2018 was "NO NEW PROJECTS". I have a difficult time finishing things I've started and because of this my hard drives are littered with unfinished songs and videos. Over the past two weeks, I've begun systematically sorting through this material, organizing it, deleting things, and finishing projects. This may not be exactly within the rules of Weekly Beats but I'd like to use it as a place to post this material. These songs may have been started years ago but were never finished, never mixed, and never shared before now.
*********
This song began as an experiment to try and sample some whale songs and incorporate them into a song. This was the first time I'd ever tried to do anything like this and since it was 2005, my tools were limited. I don't remember where I found the whale song clips (I probably Googled it) but I remember going through a lot before I found ones that sustained a note long enough to be melodic. I sent the experiment to my friend Brandon who really liked it and we turned it into a song together. He brought in his friend Laurie to sing additional vocals. The song was never finished or shared until now.

very much my jam! love the vox and the snappy percussion. any reason why the upload is such a low bitrate though? would be great to hear this in its fullest definition!

It's so joyous, I like it. I too would like to know where the rest of the quality went so I can instead love it.

that was great!

haha dig the easygoing indiepop fare!  glad you're dusting off previous unrequited oldies, i think that's going to be a partial focus for me too.
