Stellar Silk Road

Made using Bitwig. The synths are mostly U-He Diva with the more aggressive lead synth made with Arturia Mini Brute and the synth choir is Augmented Voices.

The track was an experiment in using E Phrygian Dominant to evoke a Middle Eastern sci-fi vibe and then resolving to A harmonic minor for the B section.

Interesting track for sure. I really like the synths patch chosen. sounds pretty cool.

Groovy and subtly head twisty. It's in 4, but every layer has its own unique syncopation that makes the whole thing together feel swimmy. Love the low Minibrute and the snaking lead in the B section, but weirdly, my favorite bit of sound design is the pitched metallic perc

Thanks yeah I really love those weird echoey drums and the mini brute as well!

Name suits the song so perfectly, sounds like the kind of soundtrack you'd have when meeting a really weird NPC or traversing to the next location while having to dodge something.

Thanks!

I wrote the track then got my kids to talk about the idea of a story that the sounds evoked.

My wife said Indiana Jones in space which I also thought was pretty cool.

Excellent drum groove playing off the melodies. Def feeling those space explorer vibes.  Diva is a fun synth too \m/ Well done!

I thought it was interesting to make the drums go really hard as it's not what you might expect. I wanted it to sound like Radiohead.

Lots of cool layering in this track. Spicy!

Thanks chap.

I'm trying to get better at counterpoint.

This is a fun tune! The syncopated groove is nice. Phrygian (Dominant) has a very strong flavor, yes. I like the inherent tension in this mode. But one of the biggest drawback for me is that it tends to feel a bit aimless. Like it keeps on wandering (through the desert). Your tune has that, too. Nothing feels like home. That's not a criticism, it's just an observation. And is definitely a valid effect one can go for. BTW, the video scaling with the intensity of the tune is neat.

The video was made with Vizzy it's really good for making quick visualisations for YouTube.

Totally agreed about Phrygian Dominant. That's why I put the B section in to resolve to Harmonic Minor otherwise I think the endless tension would drive you crazy!

That distorted kick and percussion is CHONK absolutely love it. I have a little too much fun with phrygian mode on a regular basis, you are really capturing a whole mood here with it along with the instrumentation, it sounds great, really fun track!

Thanks. Really appreciate that!

I love Phrygian. It's instant spooky.
