Hover Cop

The theme music to the imaginary 80's cop show "Hover Cop" a hard bitten detective solves crime and upholds justice using his high tech hovercraft.

The track is heavily based on the Air Wolf theme along with an influence by the song Runaway by Dakota which features as the theme song to a Danny MacAskill video and Phil Colins and other songs of the 80's which feature a pedal bass.

In terms of composition the track is making heavy use of a pedaled A around which the other instruments vamp. The main bit of interest is the end of the B section which uses a "Neopolitan" chord to create the overblown dramatic transition into the solo.

In terms of production it was made in Bitwig. All synths are Synapse Audio Obsession which is a brilliant Oberheim emulator. Guitars are all via Neural Rabea which I used for the first time and I'm very impressed with.

An old-school delight I see. Super fun!

Nailed the brief, but now I'm sad i'll never get to watch Hover Cop

The towards guitar at the end brings it home

I'm glad you enjoyed the guitar. I rarely record guitars because it's a faff and I do most of my music making on a laptop after the kids had gone to bet, but it really added to the cop show vibe I think.

I'm putting on my sunglasses and walking into the palm-tree-lined sunset now. The layered pad+guitar chord snaps are spot on, mix is great, and it's cool to hear you rip a solo right in the middle. But favorite bit is that it's not just an 80s rhythm, but a 50s-by-way-of-80s rhythm, which is something a lot of 80s nostalgia songs miss

Thanks for the comments really appreciate that.

Yeah the 50s 80s link is super interesting. I guess it was the birth of retro.

Feels training montage ready.

My thoughts exactly! I feel robbed of nostalgia that never existed :-)

Yes!
I can imagine him loading up all the weapons and doing target practice.

My syncopation cravings have been satisfied wholeheartedly. Cheddar cheese just out of reach of the mouse teeth. That's how I see it when I hear it.
